Ephara

Welcome to Ephara Control/Combo, where the combo is infinite and the control is annoying.

So to start off with.... why Ephara? Well there are several things. Let's start by reading the card from the top down. To start 4 cmc is a good casting cost because it's relatively cheap and easy to get Ephara out early. Then if we look a little further down you will see the art for one sexy god. Now ignore the art and let's go back to the text. Indestructible, damn the boot is so phat that when shit is getting blown up around her she is going to stick around. Sadly when she is exiled, she will disappear from us. Ok next line. EACH upkeep, if a creature has entered the battlefield last turn, under our control, we get to draw a card. Now that's one sweet draw engine. So basically just get a creature onto the battlefield each turn... easy right? Ephara also comes with the perks of being a low threat in comparison to other commanders e.g. Brago.

Our decks aren’t anything competitive. Mostly durdling until someone can win the game with a combo or combat damage.

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder - Double striking, double cascade deliciousness. Can win with mill, value or even commander damage.

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails - Voltron commander. Each tail comes equipped with a sword.

Sliver Overlord - Scariest of the decks. All cards synergies with each other. Can easily win with infinite damage, creatures, mana, steal yo stuff.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion - Big eldarzi. Pretty fun except for the annilator cards.

Ok how do we play a creature each turn? I am glad you asked. Well in terms of creatures we do have a few flashy/flicker cards let's look at them.

Flash

Luminarch Ascension - If this is online, you can win the game with this card. You can easily draw a card each turn but people may start focusing you so win quickly or gain enough value that you stay ahead.

Whitemane Lion - 2 mana draw a card that is repeatable, who doesn't want that? You can also use it to save one of your creatures from death.

Stonecloaker - Similar to whitemane but for 1 more mana. Stonecloaker also has the benefit of exiling cards from graveyards. Just take note that when your opponents are out of cards in their graveyard you will have to start exiling from your graveyard instead as it is not a may ability.

Stunt Double - Copy the biggest and meanest creature at instead speed. If you flicker it as well we can choose another creature.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - Awesome because it has flash. Even awesomer it gives other cards flash. The icing on the cake... your cards can't be countered now as this stops instant speed interaction. You might paint a target on your head though.

Vedalken Orrery - Gives your cards flash. Now you can play those creatures at instant speed or wipe the board at instant speed.

Venser, Shaper Savant - Very flexible card. You can "counter" non-counterable spells or bounce permanents to hands.

White Sun's Zenith - More of a game ending card but if you are looking for a few creatures and a draw on the next turn, you can cast this.

Flicker

AEtherling - Once he is out, it is one U for repeatable draw and protection. Awesome for the deck.

Brago, King Eternal - Attack and flicker all your permanents (Except your tokens, unless you want to do that then go ahead). This card isn't that needed in this deck as we don't combo or stax with him.

Conjurer's Closet - Very slow card but can gain plenty of value of left out for more than two turns. This could be swapped for other cards if you feel like it's not strong enough.

Deadeye Navigator - Flicker Deadeye or a creature with an awesome etb effect for value and draw. Can also be used to protect a creature.

Eldrazi Displacer - Flicker any creature for 2 generic and a colourless. Most of the time this deck does have access to at least one colorless mana symbol. Can be used to remove tokens as well.

Mistmeadow Witch - like displacer but for one more mana. We are also more likely to have U/W mana.

Restoration Angel - Flicker any non-angel. This allows us to draw a card and get an etb effect.

Venser, the Sojourner - Has a lot of utility. He is guaranteed to be focused down early as no one wants that ultimate to come online. Be prepared to defend him. Note, he can flicker permanents you own but your opponents control, even things like gilded drake… which is not in this deck.

Now behind every great deck there are many ramp cards to get it going. Ideally low costed and many but sadly the cheaper the cmc the more expensive it is. Here is a list of ramp cards that work in the deck but could be upgraded to better variants.

Azorius Cluestone - Generic mana rock. If you don't need it anymore or if it is about to get destroyed you can pay U+W and sacrifice it to draw a card.

Azorius Signet - 2 cmc mana fixer in our colours, what is not to love.

Commander's Sphere - Tap for either U or W and like the cluestone we can sac it to draw a card... but without the cost.

Fellwar Stone - If you are playing 4 player commander, most of the time someone will have either W or U. At worst it's a bad Mind Stone.

Gilded Lotus - I really like this card. Really costy at 5 cmc but it really helps casting this big spells or can even be left for a counterspell. Also nice if it is flickered.

Mind Stone - 1 colourless is not bad at 2 cmc as the second ability can be used in a pinch if needed. Versatility is awesome.

Sol Ring - Sol ring is Sol Ring is Sol Ring.

Thought Vessel - 2 cmc for 1 one colourless is not terrible but when it's combined with a second effect, it's not half bad.

Solemn Simulacrum - 4 mana for a basic land is not half bad because you can also draw a card from this creature when it dies. This card can also be flickered for extra value.

With any good deck, there needs to be a way to remove threats or counter them. With Ephara being indestructible, we have the benefit of keeping her around when we board wipe... except if we exile or put on the bottom of the library. In the meta I play in, sometimes the opponent's do have indestructible creatures, thus we have to use board wipes that remove Ephara as well.

Single target

Cyclonic Rift - Sometimes you need to remove one target. If it keeps you in the game or wins the game, who cares?

Duplicant - In the worst case this is 6 mana, exile target creature, you get a creature. If you can flicker it a few times, it could easily 5 for 1.

Mystic Confluence - Don't be surprised that when you cast this you activate all three modes or the same mode three times. This might be used to bounce three creatures.

Path to Exile - One W to remove a creature is really awesome, especially at instant speed. The opponent getting a basic shouldn't matter in a format like EDH.

Return to Dust - This card is awesome as most of the time when you cast it you want to remove two artifacts or enchantments. I wish I could put two in the deck.

Swords to Plowshares - Similar to path but they gain life instead. Most of the time, the life gain doesn't matter in this format.

Venser, Shaper Savant - Bounce a threat to hand is not bad if it keeps you in the game or wins you the game.

Board wipes

Angel of Serenity - Semi board wipe. If you flicker it on etb you exile the first targets permanently and can select another 3 targets. In dire times you can exile creature cards in your graveyard so that you can return them to hand when this leaves the battlefield.

Cyclonic Rift - Card is nuts when it's overloaded. You can cast this and then swing in with all your creatures. Best board wipe imo.

Hallowed Burial - Gets around indestructible. If that is not common in your meta this could be changed for any other boardwipe e.g. Fumigate.

Rout - An expensive Wrath of God but it be cast at instant speed. I prefer that flexibility.

Supreme Verdict - Uncounterable board clears are awesome. This can still be bounced back to your hand though so be wary of that.

Wrath of God - Easiest to cast boardwipe. This could be changed for other clears in the case you feel you need something with more utility.

Counters

Counterspell - Generic good ole counterspell. This is a very solid card and can work in every blue deck.

Mystic Confluence - Sometimes you will cast this and counter a spell unless they pay 6-9. It's not great but you having the flexibility is awesome. This basically poor man's Cryptic Command.

Render Silent - Counter a spell on an opponent’s turn and you have just locked out their turn. They may hate on your afterwards though.

Swan Song - Good for countering counterspells. Good for protecting combos. The 2/2 bird is always irrelevant.

Venser, Shaper Savant - Bounce a spell back to hand. Don't forget you can bounce Uncounterable spells.

Infinite mana

Palinchron + Phantasmal Image - Play Palinchron, play Phantasmal Image targeting Palinchron. Bounce Phantasmal Image using the copied bounce ability from Palinchron. Nets 1 mana at minimum.

Palinchron/Peregrine Drake + Eldrazi Displacer/Mistmeadow Witch - Play either Palinchron or Peregrine drake and blink them with the ability on Eldrazi Displacer or Mistmeadow Witch. Nets one mana at minimum.

Palinchron/Peregrine Drake + Archaeomancer/Mnemonic Wall + Ghostly Flicker - Play Palinchron/Peregrine Drake and Archaeomancer/Mnemonic Wall and then cast Ghostly flicker. Cast Ghostly Flicker targeting a land untapper and recurrer. Ghostly Flicker resolves and ends up in the graveyard. Then the etbs trigger so you untap your lands and return Ghostly flicker. Nets 2 mana at minimum. What to do with the infinite mana. Well you can cast Sphinx's Revelation for most of your deck and get White Sun's Zenith. From here make a billion creatures and swing your next turn and win. All these cards can be cast an instead speed so you could do it the end of your opponents turn, before yours. If you can't win with the infinite mana hopefully you can cast/flicker a creature every turn till you draw something good.

Infinite Mill

Palinchron/Peregrine Drake + Nim Deathmantle + Altar of Dementia - Sacrifce your choice of land untapper with Altar of Dementia. Pay the 4 mana to bring the creature back untapping your lands so you can do it again. Repeat till all opponents’ libraries are empty. Any 3 cmc or less creature + Sun titan + Altar of Dementia + Infinite mana combo - First get an infinite amount of mana... or like a billion seeing as it has to have a value. Sacrifice your 3 cmc creature with Altar of Dementia then flicker Sun Titan with the flicker effect from your infinite mana combo. Return 3 cmc creature, rinse and repeat.

Infinite Life

Palinchron/Peregrine Drake + Nim Deathmantle + High Market - same as the infinite mana combo but you untap high market, thus gaining one life every time. This can gain infinite mana if you use Palinchron or have a land that taps for two mana.

Whitemane Lion/Stonecloaker + Equilibrium - 3/4 mana bounce an opponent’s creature and draw a card that is repeatable is awesome. With infinite mana bounce the board.

Karmic Guide + Flicker effect - Return yo creatures. You only have to pay the echo cost of the karmic guides still on the battlefield but most of the time I don't as a 2/2 flier is usually not worth it.

Tutors are important as they allow you to assembly the combo pieces that you are missing or even an answer to keep you in the game. More is usually better as it usually has the same effect of having a card twice in your deck. Sadly we are in the worst colours to find creatures which is generally where half the combos are.

Enlightened Tutor - Will mostly likely be used to search for one of the artifact combo pieces. In dire situations, it could be used to search for Aura of Silence or Equilibrium.

Long-Term Plans - Search for any card in the deck. Find what you need for the combo. Three from the top won't matter when you are drawing a card on each of your opponent’s turns.

Mystical Tutor - Can be used to search for answers or to get ghostly flicker.

Recruiter of the Guard - One of the two ways to search for creatures though it can only have toughness 2 or less. Lucky that's relevant enough that it can be included.

This deck is nothing revolutionary or overpowered but it's my little baby. I have morphed it into what it is today.

Play ephara if you are cool.
