The Deck

Prime Wishes is my new brew where is is primarily a ramp/mid-range deck build around Primeval Titan and Fae of Wishes / Karn, the Great Creator to have a better early game interaction to lay the foundation for a better mid to late game. Karn, the Great Creator is great against the artifact combo decks that are running rampant in the modern meta right now. Unlike other titan builds that aims to combo off as fast as possible, this deck leans towards a more mid-range/disruption approach to shore up win % against the modern metagame. The best thing about this titan build is that it puts pressure on the board as early as turn 2 and can escalate quickly out of hand by turn 4/5 on several different axis if left unanswered. Imagine the following scenario:

This is a nightmare scenario for my opponent that isn't too uncommon to pull off with this deck. Another early game disruption that can come down by turn 3 is to Fae of Wishes into Surgical Extraction . There are so many different lines of play, redundancies, and disruption build into this deck that it will make my opponent fight hard for a win.

Oko, Thief of Crowns really changes the modern landscape in a way that is exciting to brewers like me. In my opinion, he is the missing piece for temur decks to finally have a chance to be truly competitive in modern. He can come down as early as turn 2 with Gilded Goose as a catch-all answer to threats early game and double down as a clock with elk tokens. Karn, the Great Creator goes really well with Oko, Thief of Crowns as his wish targets like Liquimetal Coating can open up additional lines with Oko's elk ability. Wrenn and Six is another great walker for the deck as he ensures that I will get that consistent land drop per turn as well as turning fetchlands into discard fodder for Fae of Wishes 's bounce ability. Tooth and Nail gives me inevitability to win the game on the spot with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn + Xenagos, God of Revels .

Why Prime Wishes Over Other Titan Builds?

Amulet Titan is still the best primeval titan deck with proven high win percentages but it is one of the most skill intensive decks to pilot and punishes inexperienced players for misplays. Titan Shift is another great primeval titan deck that is more straightforward and less skill intensive. Both decks have a weakness towards disruption/aggro strategies like Death Shadow which Prime Fires does not. Prime Fires also has a better early game interaction via Oko, Thief of Crowns and Karn, the Great Creator / Fae of Wishes . The other advantage is that this deck has a more favorable matchup against Burn/Aggro with Gilded Goose and Oko, Thief of Crowns .

Deck's Anatomy

The deck anatomy is broken up into 3 sections. Pre-prime time (early game), prime time (mid game), and post-prime time (late game).

Notable Card Choices

  • The inclusion of each tron land is intentional. This is to provide me the option to either power out a Karn + Lattice combo after tutoring them out with prime time or lets me hard cast or resolve an entwined Tooth and Nail easily mid game. The tron lands are just a backup plan that acts as a steroid for the deck so it isn't important if it is broken up.

  • The inclusion of Emrakul, the Aeons Torn as a finisher can be critiqued as being slower than its valakut or amulet variant. However this deck isn't designed to be combo first but rather a mid-range strategy with a combo finisher. This makes Emrakul so much better as it can steal games if I get a an early prime time into tron lands assembled to either hard cast or cheat it in via Tooth and Nail . The deck also has a faster win con via Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice lock. Having different victory paths is important to reduce the failure rate of the deck if one piece gets shut off.

  • Xenagos, God of Revels is needed in order to give Emrakul haste and 30 power (for instant kill) via an entwined Tooth and Nail . It can also be easily hardcasted to give a surprise 12 power hasted Primeval Titan .

I've designed the sideboard in three categories: answers, utility, and win condition. This works pretty well and shore up % in historically unwinnable matches. The sideboard is currently being tested and tweaked.
