His Hunger Knows No Bounds

This is my first attempt at a Korvold deck, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with how it came out. This is a sacrifice deck with a bit of a lands sub-theme. Because well lands are incidentally really good at sacrificing themselves, as well as making tokens which we can also sac. The goal of this deck is to ramp out into Korvold early and get massive value through sacrificing. Creatures, clues, treasure, lands you name it.

  • Korvold turns all of our fetchlands into cantrips.

  • Korvold, Fae-Cursed King + The Gitrog Monster synergize really well together. Having both out mean all your fetches will get draw you two cards! And Gitrog's upkeep trigger will mean you're drawing three cards a turn.

  • Crucible of Worlds or Ramunap Excavator + our cantripping fetchlands is a huge value engine. Add landfall or additional lands effect make this even better.

  • Squandered Resources is a nutty card. This with either Splendid Reclamation or World Shaper with a sac-outlet (fortunately we have one in our command zone) mean we can draw as many cards as we have lands.

  • Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder with our commander and a sac-outlet can cause this really funny chain that could draw our whole deck. First cast a creature, get a number of thrull tokens equal to the cmc of the creature cast, sacrifice each of those tokens for mana which draws us cards for each of those tokens off of Korvold, Fae-Cursed King , which can then draw us into more creatures to cast with the mana we got from sacrificing the tokens. Rinse and repeat. This chain is limited by how much colored mana we have, but if our sac-oulet is Phyrexian Altar or if we have Pitiless Plunderer in play we'll more than likely draw our whole deck.

  • Scapeshift with our commander out is disgusting. Even more so if some we have a landfall creature or Lotus Cobra out. This combo is half the reason I wanted to build this deck.

  • Also Scapeshift + Field of the Dead is instant board presence.

  • Nether Traitor + Pawn of Ulamog + Phyrexian Altar is infinite sacrifice and mana. First you sacrifice Nether Traitor to the altar for which triggers Pawn of Ulamog nabbing you a spawn token. Then you sac the token for whatever mana you want, which triggers Nether Traitor . You pay the with the mana we got earlier and boom. We're back where we started netting one mana. Repeat the loop, play our commander if he's not already out, and draw our whole deck.

  • Dockside Extortionist + Temur Sabertooth is infinite treasure if our opponents have 5 or more artifacts and enchantments in play. Given that this is commander, this is probably true most of the time. Infinite treasure mean infinite sacrifice, which means we can draw our whole deck with our commander.

  • If we ever get to into an infinite sacrifice situation, Mayhem Devil will ping all of our opponents to death.

  • Finale of Devastation + Avenger of Zendikar can outright win the game if we have the mana and enough lands in play.

  • And let's not forget that Korvold, Fae-Cursed King is a win-con all in himself. All of these sacrificing shenanigans often mean an arbitrarily large Korvold which can threaten death through commander damage.

This has been a really fun brew for me. Also a difficult one since this sort of deck has so many moving parts: sac-outlets, things to sac, recursion packages, payoffs for sacrificing. Which can cause this deck to stumble a bit. But we have a lot of tutors to help get those pieces into place, and Korvold is great at drawing into what we need. Love to hear any feedback you guys have. And remember: when in doubt, jund them out.
