My playgroup and I all agreed to build silver-bordered commander decks in celebration of the release of Unhinged, with each of us focusing on one of the legendary creatures released in the set. Although my first thought (and that of several others in my group) upon seeing the spoiler for The Grand Calcutron was that of a Stax-like deck, I decided to take it in a different direction. Contrary to the nature of Stax decks, Calcutron also has the capacity to support highly agressive decks that empty their hands as quickly as possible, while also hindering the strategies of reactive and controlling decks. Granted, this doesn't stop topdecked boardwipes and the like, so I've taken the liberty of adding a number of cards that either prevent my cards from being targeted, protect them from destructive spells, allow me to return them to my hand from the grave, or even flicker them until the end of the turn (see: Eerie Interlude). This also helps the issue of Contraptions, which you may have noticed is one of the other sub-themes here. Althoguh assembling and using them isn't necessarily a problem for this deck, protecting them is another matter altogether, courtesy fo the fact that once they are destroyed, they can't be brought back. Moreover, there's a Do-It-Yourself Seraph package in cards like Darksteel Forge, Akroma's Memorial, Gleemax, etc that allow me to effectively tutor up and play an artifact from my deck, barring etb effects and the like. All in all, this is intended for a very casual setting and my only real priority is making sure that my contraptions and artifacts stick when they hit the table, so any and all suggestions on that front would be greatly appreciated.
