Primer all written and page revamped! —Oct. 27, 2019

Took awhile but I finally found the time to write out a semi-decent primer! Please let me know if there is anything I should add in!

Someone pointed out the Dockside Extortionist and Temur Sabertooth combo on my Korvold deck, sound spicy?

It is austintayshus, n0bunga pointed that out in our discord chat and I am considering it. It makes infinite mana, however I have yet to conclude which combo route to go for. I'm leaning more towards reanimator combo to pull out the full potential of Jund. I already have Dockside in the deck, but Temur Sabertooth is something to consider!

I run the Dockside Sabretooth and it's a good backup combo. My main--or easiest--line is Animation Module + Korvold + any sac outlet; Krark, Ashnod's, Phyrexian Altar, Viscera, etc.

Really glad you decided to try him out without Food Chain! Truth is, I admire your works and enjoyed a bunch of your other lists.

If you're interested, I've been playtesting a semi-comp build for the last few weeks. Here's what I've come up with: Puff, the Fae-Cursed Dragon

Happy building!

Oh yeah, FWIW I run things like Exsanguinate and Torment of Hailfire as primary wincons, and Bloodbriar can take the place of Korvold in the Animation Module combo.

Shit last one (waited too long to edit.. sry!)

I don't run much removal just because of how early I expect things to happen, but also my meta didn't have much stax until recently one of the guys acquired a fully tuned Urza and a Derevi player joined in. Now I'll probably add Cursed Totem , Force of Vigor and some more removal.

I rely heavily on Boseiju, Pyroblast, Red/blast, and Veil on/around the turns I expect to go off.

What do you think?

Cool list but how effective is Captain Lannery Storm ? Seems like a really slow treasure generator to me..

Yo Fenryr, thanks for the upvote peep~

As to respond to your comment, I absolutely love Torment of Hailfire and others of it's ilk. I'm still haven't figured out which way I want to build Korvold just yet as I don't have it in paper as of the moment until release day so till than this is all theorycraft. I'll definitely be updating and getting the primer in once I test the deck and see how it is. Right now I am super hyped up to test him out, I honestly think he is better than Prossh due to the versatility he brings to the table. Even if going the FC route he is better because he can draw you your win conditions whereas Prossh you have to have an outlet in hand.

In going to your second comment, REB and Pyroblast are amazing cards in cEDH meta or blue based heavy meta. There will be guaranteed at least one blue player in the pod and it definitely helps in protection or removal. Jund has some great removal in terms of Assassin's Trophy , Abrupt Decay , Nature's Claim , even Seeds of Innocence in artifact heavy pods.

Feel free to hit me up if ya need more insight, always down to have some brewing discussion or deck teching! :3

Heya kerrik, tbh I'm not too sure how well Captain Lannery Storm will do. It's more for the value where I can make treasures in conjunction to draw cards with Korvold without having to pay a great cost, and it's sweet early game. In my Niv-Mizzie deck it has been a ton of value for the early ramp, even at one per turn as I can accelerate into Niv. So I am assuming it will be decent in Korvold as I can make mana as well as draw cards, the synergy is real yo. Aside from that, as I mentioned in my other comment I haven't built the deck in paper just yet so I can't really test it out until I have it in my hands, but until than feel free to point out any other things that you see!

So been play testing Korvold here for a month or so. I started with the extra lands package to be not necessary. i.e. Exploration , azusa, crucible, ramunap. My main deck is The Gitrog Monster and Korvold shares 70% of the cards. I have found Emergence Zone to be an all star along with Survival of the Fittest to win at instant speed or at least threaten the win at any time there's a mana open. I've cut Toxic Deluge and replaced it with Fire Covenant as I run just as many dorks as you. Reanimation package of Reanimate Animate Dead also has been key usually targeting Dockside Extortionist but also trying out Razaketh to see if I like it. Also, may I interest you in Reap in place of Regrowth ?

Thoughts?

Lol if only Smothering Tithe was black... :( I’ve been playing Korvold almost exclusively. What I’ve found is that, while oppressive staccs is a no go, things like City of Solitude and Defense Grid are golden as most times opponents counters out-counter any of my supplemental defenses (I.e. Autumns veil, veil of summer, red counters). Heartwood Storyteller, what do you think? Slow but useful and political.

Fenryr yeah Heartwood Storyteller has no business in a Cedh meta. Sure you get to draw a card but so does a flash hulk player or one on consult lines. That’s why I think scheming symmetry is a no go unless you’re playing Stranglehold

Royal-Tot Yo, great perspective appreciate the analysis ya have. I just recently got back from Vegas so I wasn't able to test it more but at the current moment the extra land package is quite necessary as I am in a more stax oriented meta. I do like the change for Fire Covenant over Toxic Deluge and I been playing around with Survival of the Fittest , since my lines tend to be more creature based I do think SotF will do more work especially with the Temur/Dockside line.

I have yet to see if the Raza line will do work, but my buddy plays the Raza line in his Prossh so I can see the value in it, especially since we have access to Life / Death as well, but that requires more testing as I play more and more. For the Regrowth over Reap , it depends as usually there is only one other black player, so at the moment I will use Regrowth for now. Tomorrow I'm going to be able to play a little more so I'll post my results after tomorrow night. (Also testing out Scheming Symmetry , it has it's value as long as you can draw first which is usually via Korvold plus it's another any tutor which is great)

Fenryr I do not like Heartwood Storyteller , I don't like giving anyone else advantage but myself, for Defense Grid and City of Solitude I do like them but I prefer Dosan over both as there are other ways for me to grab them.

Thanks for the comments you two!
