(11-10-2020) I have moved this decklist to moxfield. Will no longer update this one. Link: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_QLPEXozs0OEiwkaV-XETA

Hello, welcome to my Emry deck. :-)

This deck is best described as a fast paced, layered combo deck. It seeks to either (i) scrap our library with Mesmeric Orb + Basalt Monolith and win through Emrys activated ability and Conjurer's Bauble, (ii) gain infinite mana and infinite untaps with Emry through Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal, or (iii) looping a one of the baubles or Lotus Petal / Lion's Eye Diamond together with Mirran Spy / Chakram Retriever.

Each line results in casting a large Brain Freeze, milling our opponents.

If you enjoy piecing together a win from a larger pool of options or a deck with high skill-ceiling, this deck is likely to be of your taste. Consider leaving a comment or a like if you want. Thanks! :)

This loop is a sequence of (i) milling your entire library into your graveyard, (ii) generating infinite mana through a loop using Emry's activated ability, and (iii) milling your opponents libraries into their graveyard, making them draw from empty libraries, and winning the game.

To win the game through the MO/BM-loop you need to (at least) satisfy all the conditions listed below.

-Mesmeric Orb in play.

-Basalt Monolith in play.

-(two blue mana available).

-Emry, tapped, without summoning sickness.

-Fatestitcher in library.

If Fatestitcher is either in exile or in your hand, Emry needs to be untapped and we need to have an artifact in play which can produce . However, only one blue mana is needed in this case.

1) Activate Basalt Monolith for then activate it's ability paying . This will trigger Mesmeric Orb and mill a card from our library into our graveyard with each iteration. Continue until our library is completely milled into our graveyard.

2) Activate Fatestitchers ability from the graveyard, putting it into the battlefield with haste.

3) Activate Fatestitchers ability, untapping Emry.

4) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it (paying with Basalt Monolith).

5) Activate Conjurer's Bauble and target = Dramatic Reversal, putting it back into our library and drawing it.

6) Cast Dramatic Reversal, untapping Emry, Fatestitcher and Basalt Monolith.

7) Activate Emry, target = Mox Amber and cast it.

8) Activate Fatestitchers ability, untapping Emry.

9) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

10) Activate Conjurer's Bauble and target = Dramatic Reversal, putting it back into our library and drawing it.

11) Cast Dramatic Reversal, untapping Emry, Fatestitcher, Mox Amber and Basalt Monolith.

12) Loop steps 9-11 for an arbitrarily large amount of mana and storm-count.

13) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

14) Activate Conjurer's Bauble (target = Brain Freeze).

15) Cast Brain Freeze and target each opponent with enough copies of Brain Freeze to mill their libraries into their graveyards.

Note that this can't be used to win against opponents running one or more of the titans (such as Anje or Gitrog players). This loop should also be avoided in the case that our opponents might run Angel's Grace, passing the turn to us and making us lose instead. These situations can be solved using this loop instead:

Assuming the same board state as the previous loop:

1) Activate Basalt Monolith for then activate it's ability paying . This will trigger Mesmeric Orb and mill a card from our library into our graveyard with each iteration. Continue until our library is completely milled into our graveyard.

2) Activate Fatestitcher's ability from the graveyard, putting it into the battlefield with haste.

3) Activate Fatestitcher's ability, untapping Emry.

8) Activate Fatestitcher's ability, untapping Emry.

13) Activate Emry, target = Staff of Domination and cast it.

14) Activate Staff of Domination to untap Emry.

15) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

16) Activate Conjurer's Bauble target = Swan Song, putting it back into our library and drawing it.

17) Activate Staff of Domination to untap it, then activate it again to untap Emry.

18) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

19) Activate Conjurer's Bauble target = Mystical Tutor, putting it back into our library and drawing it. (This can be any castable spell which can by countered by Swan Song).

20) Cast Mystical Tutor and hold priority.

21) Cast Swan Song, target = Mystical Tutor, countering it and creating a 2/2 swan token.

22) Loop steps 14-21 for infinite 2/2 swan tokens.

23) Activate Staff of Domination to untap it, then activate it again to untap Emry.

24) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

25) Activate Conjurer's Bauble target = Timetwister, putting it back into our library and drawing it.

26) Activate Staff of Domination to untap it, then activate it again to untap Emry.

27) Activate Emry, target = Conjurer's Bauble and cast it.

28) Activate Conjurer's Bauble target = Hullbreacher, putting it back into our library and drawing it.

29) Cast Hullbreacher.

30) Cast Timetwister. (This prevents us from dying to decking and disrupts our opponents hand)

31) Activate Staff of Domination to draw cards until you have enough counterspells to prevent your opponents from winning during their turn.

32) Pass the turn.

33) At your next turn, swing with infinite 2/2 swan tokens for the win.

It is, of course, possible to also bounce each of our opponents non-land permanents with Chain of Vapor and countering the copy if necessary.

If Brain Freeze and Swan Song is exiled we can use Staff of Domination to untap/tap our opponents creatures, triggering Mesmeric Orb and milling their libraries.

Unfortunetly there's too many variations of the loop for me to go through. I'm happy to answer questions in the comment section or on the Emry discord (https://discord.gg/yGQ3nYWpdd) where anyone is welcome.

This loop is a sequence of (i) drawing your entire library, and (ii) milling your opponents libraries into their graveyard, making them draw from empty libraries, and winning the game.

To win the game through the BaubleSpy-loop you need to (at least) satisfy all the conditions listed below.

- (three colorless mana available).

-(Emry, tapped, without summoning sickness AND Urza's Bauble in hand) OR (Emry, untapped, without summoning sickness AND Urza's Bauble either in play, graveyard or hand).

-Mirran Spy or Chakram Retriever in play.

-Shimmer Myr in library.

Urza's Bauble can be replaced by Mishra's Bauble for obvious reasons.

In the following loop i'm assuming the state:

-Emry in play, tapped, without summoning sickness.

-Mirran Spy in play.

-Mana Vault in play (for the required for the loop, Mana Vault is not a necessary condition).

-Shimmer Myr in library.

-Urza's Bauble in hand.

-Lotus Petal in library (not a necessary condition).

-Brain Freeze not in exile (not a necessary condition).

1) Cast Urza's Bauble, triggering Mirran Spy and untapping Emry.

2) Activate Urza's Bauble.

3) Activate Emry, target = Urza's Bauble.

4) Repeat the steps 1-3 x times where x is the amount of cards in your library.

5) Pass the turn.

6) At the beginning of your opponent's upkeep, resolve each draw trigger, drawing your library.

7) Cast Shimmer Myr in response to your opponents upkeep draw trigger.

8) Cast Lotus Petal.

9) Sacrifice Lotus Petal, adding to your mana pool.

10) Tap Emry, target = Lotus Petal.

11) Cast Lotus Petal, triggering Mirran Spy and untapping Emry.

12) Repeat steps 9-12 for an arbitrarily large amount of mana and storm count.

13) Cast Brain Freeze and target each opponent with enough copies of Brain Freeze to mill their libraries into their graveyards.

This loop can also be executed by simply replacing Mirran Spy with the Isochron Scepter/lithoform engime + Dramatic Reversal combo.

Intuition - Tutor for missing combo pieces and pick up the discards with Emry. The most common intuition pile is to get Mesmeric Orb + Basalt Monolith + Mirran Spy since this guarantees that we win the same turn if we have enough mana, a blue source artifact and a bauble in graveyard/hand/battlefield.

--

Minamo, School at Water's Edge - Emry.

--

Bazaar of Baghdad - Great for digging deeper into our library.

--

Shimmer Myr - This card allows us to win at instant speed after drawing our library with Mirran Spy / Chakram Retriever and one of the baubles (+ some other tricky loops that are made possible).

--

Spellskite - Protects us against nasty Assassin's Trophy, Abrupt Decay and Chain of Vapor. Currently not in the list but it is a worthy mention.

--

(Tezzeret the Seeker + Rings of Brighthearth + Emry) - Another combo that is currently not included in the list but it might be fun to consider in a more casual version.

Requirements: Tezzeret the Seeker On the battlefield. Rings of Brighthearth On the battlefield. Emry activation ready.

  1. Activate Tezzeret minus ability for 3, holding priority.
  2. Copy the activation using Rings of Brighthearth.
  3. Resolve both copies and fetch Basalt Monolith and Mesmeric Orb onto the battlefield.
  4. Activate Basalt Monolith for .
  5. Activate Basalt Monoliths ability, hold priority.
  6. Copy Basalt Monoliths ability with Rings of Brighthearth.
  7. Resolve the copied and then, responding to the second copy, it for .
  8. Resolve the original copy of the activation.

  9. Resolve steps 4-8 for . Mesmeric Orb will trigger with each of Basalt Monolith, milling our library into our graveyard.

  10. Activate Emry (target = Walking Ballista) to win the game.

--

(Mirran Spy + Mishra's Bauble + Emry) - The most well-known (and perhaps most effective) combo in the deck. This draws our library at the beginning of the next turns upkeep. Having available at this point allows us to win the game by first casting Shimmer Myr and then Lotus Petal (recurring it with Emry and Mirran Spy), generating , and finally grabbing Brain Freeze with Conjurer's Bauble.

Mulligan aggressively for a hand that accomplish one of four things:

1) Playing Emry on turn one (Example hand: Island, Island, Mesmeric Orb, Mox Opal, Windfall, Island, Mishra's Bauble).

--

2) Getting an engine online (Example hand: Island, Mana Crypt, time twister, Island, Mesmeric Orb, Thousand-Year Elixir, Bazaar of Baghdad).

--

3) Getting a massive card advantage (Example hand: Island, Mystic Remora, Sol Ring, Mishra's Bauble, Island, Rhystic Study, Windfall).

--

4) Comboing off early (Example hand: Mishra's Workshop, Basalt Monolith, Mox Amber, Island, Mesmeric Orb, Island, Sol Ring).

-

Here's a list of cards I like to see in my opener:

  1. Mesmeric Orb - Great engine to get out early and start digging for our win conditions.

  2. Mental Misstep - This is great for hitting our opponents problematic turn one plays (such as Mystic Remora or Grafdigger's Cage).

  3. Mystic Remora - With good when going up against staxy, grindy pods and when faced against turbo- ad nauseam decks that can't afford to lose tempo by not feeding the fish. Especially in the current state of the meta, bad hands often become good if the blue fish is to be found in there.

  4. Mirran Spy - The spy has the highest combo-potential in the deck.

-

Notable active plan:

Example hand: Miscast, Island, Island, Mana Crypt, Basalt Monolith, Timetwister, Island.

With this hand, our plan seems to be to cast Timetwister turn one. Here we should pay attention to our position in the turn-order. Going first, this hand is great. Going last, I would mulligan this as we are running the risk of either fizzling out if the Timetwister gets countered, or refilling our opponents hands if it resolves. Going 3rd, it is a fine keep if we are up against, for example, blood pod + gitrog in front of us in the turn order. In conclusion, keep this hand if the turn-order/pod seems appropriate for it.
