Considering a change, need input —May 21, 2017

So I've had Thornweald Archer in my side for a while simply because I have nothing mainboard to block flyers, but I think that it is less important to worry about a direct response to that sort issue and more important to work on winning the game before someone can swing over my head with their Delver or whatever anyway. Also boarding in one elf with reach wouldn't necessarily do much to turn the table in that sort of match-up anyway (cough cough, esper spirits cough). In its place I'm considering moving Nissa Revane to sideboard. Some people say she isn't even worth playing, but honestly it isn't about her ultimate, it's her +1 that I think is so bonkers. Especially now with more creatures than I used to have, her +1, even if she only survives a turn, could mean the whole game considering how easy it is to gain 10+ life on the turn she's played assuming my first 4-5 turns have hit at least decent elf drops and they've stuck around. Regardless, the deck is probably better off focusing on the creature game, but I think she is a worthy sideboard for grindy match-ups where gaining life or dumping every elf in my deck might actually be worth gunning for. If I take Nissa out, I take Nissa's Chosen out (but not into sideboard) and that opens up 2 slots for... another CoCo and Shaman of the Pack? I like the idea but I figured writing it out and maybe getting input on it would help finalize the decision.

I love elf cards, so I love elf decks. I have one for Tiny Leaders, Modern, EDH, and even elves in a infinite combo standard deck. One thing that I have learned about elves though, you need very certain ones with very certain spells to achieve the greatest success in a game. One combo of cards I really enjoy is Pathway Arrows and Glissa, the Traitor. You can use her deathtouch ability with that card murder creatures, then, if they destroy the Artifact.. Glissa can get it right back! So, if you're running a Green/Black Elf deck, that's one thing to consider.

Here's my Tiny Leaders Elf deck, this is perhaps my favorite game mode in magic to play with friends. TIny Murderers

Oh, and Deathrite Shaman is a must have too. Lol, sorry for blowing up the comments here.

Thanks PickleNutz. Unfortunately Deathrite is banned in modern. That Arrows + Glissa combo is definitely neat though. It would be cool to see an elf deck incorporate play-sets of those as a means to clear out creatures. In this deck I'm afraid there just isn't room though - Arrows can't be fetched by CoCo or Chord, so multiples if not 4x would probably be needed to hit it reliably. And Glissa is certainly strong on her own, but gives no synergy, and as cool as the removal trick is it does nothing for hitting life total or anything non-creature. As I've been finding out, Modern really comes down to how fast you overpower the board or hit a win con. But thanks for the suggestions! I'm currently building a Nath of the Gilt-Leaf commander deck (Nath of the Kilt-Thief), maybe I can find room to throw those two in there ;)
