[Primer] Do It Again, I Wasn't Looking - Yarok EDH

Commander / EDH Aggro BUG (Sultai) Competitive Goodstuff Ramp Value Engine

Hydrax

This deck has been moved to Moxfield. It will no longer be updated here.

Introduction

Not sure if you've heard, but Wizards printed Panharmonicon on a stick. Welcome everyone, to Yarok, the Desecrated EDH, a deck which seeks to abuse the everliving crap out of every juicy ETB effect that Black, Green and Blue have to offer.

This is a toolbox style deck that can adapt alarmingly quickly, switching from ramp to aggression to control and back again blink of an eye. It is designed to outgrind its opponents through sheer value and the suite of creatures has been carefully chosen to reflect that game plan.

TL;DR Primer

  • Focus on ramp in the early game.

  • If there is an opportunity to get Thassa, Deep-Dwelling on the board, DO IT. Yarok is a removal magnet but Thassa is much more difficult to get rid of and serves as the secret secondary commander of this deck.

  • Start policing the board in the mid-game with powerful ETB removal and steal effects.

  • When the opportunity arises, look to tutor for Ulvenwald Hydra and get it on the battlefield so it can search for Field of the Dead.

  • Continue grinding value and policing the board while producing lots of tokens from Field of the Dead.

  • Eventually look to resolve a Craterhoof Behemoth double trigger, possibly quadruple trigger if Nephalia Smuggler is in play, and use the power buff to win the game or cripple opponents to the point where they cannot come back.

  • If the game still hasn't ended, look to assemble the Peregrine Drake + Deadeye Navigator combo for infinite mana, then use that infinite mana to pair another creature to the Navigator such as Venser, Shaper Savant, Acidic Slime or Agent of Treachery. Repeatedly blink them with Navigator's Soulbond effect to bounce, destroy or steal opponents' stuff, making it virtually impossible for them to win.

Requirements:

Steps:

  1. Activate the blink ability that Peregrine Drake has thanks to Deadeye Navigator for

  2. Peregrine Drake re-enters the field and triggers its effect, Deadeye Navigator also triggers

  3. Re-bond the drake to the Navigator (do this every time). Then resolve the Drake's untap trigger, untap 5 lands and make sure at least one of them can produce

  4. Tap those 5 lands for mana

  5. Spend to blink the Drake again and repeat steps 2-3. Each time you do this you're gaining 5 mana and only spending 2, so you can repeat for infinite mana.
