Needs some Elvish Mystic

@RedMurderDemon

I've actually tried working in Elvish Mystic but it's proven to be a bit of a challenge, and hasn't really netted any gain. See the Unwritten comes down T4 at its earliest, with or without Elvish Mystic (unless, i draw T1 Mystic, T2 Mystic x2 which isn't likely). Couple that with the fact that he doesn't help to fix my mana if I run into trouble, he doesn't actually improve the deck, that I've seen anyways.

Not to mention the issue of what to take out to fit him in.

The main point is to ramp into See the Unwritten correct? then counter spells are nice but not really needed maybe keep negate for pws and wipes.

Glad you took my suggestions! You still need some mana ramp. If anything run Embodiment of Spring as well as Verdant Haven . Turn 1: An 0/3 first turn blocker for haste creatures, end of both turns. Turn 2: untap, play land, cast Follower or carytid, end turn, sack Spring for land, end opp turn. Turn 3: untap, play land, play verdant haven gain 2 life from any damage you took along the way. Each turn you should be able to do something and by turn 3 you can start countering using negate or dissolve and even add in Stubborn Denial . I say get rid of Keranos and AoI. By turn 4 you should be able to See the Unwritten and pull off a Leviathan of your choice. if Knuckle is out there, then you can use the Ferocious part and get an extra Leviathan out there. Turn 5 you can Burning Anger one of them. Turn 6 attack with Stormtide, untap him with Follower, Burning Anger. If you have another Follower out then it will be overkill.

Mass amount of playtesting and goldfishing happened tonight. Here are my thoughts:

@Sharpeimagine

Your suggestions were great. I freaking love Burning Anger . Now on to this batch..

Verdant Haven is definitely interesting. My only problem is that it's a little bit slow. The mana fixing is nice, and the life gain could definitely help, but in playtesting I found it didn't quite have the punch I would want.

I've thought about Embodiment of Spring , but I actually won't be able to sac him T2, assuming I played a mana dork that turn. He costs 2 to sac, which I would rather be able to spend on a mana dork anyways, or even a Negate . I see him as insurance for if you miss drawing a caryatid or follower, in which case why wouldn't you just run more ramp creatures?

Which brings me to...

@RedMurderDemon

I was totally wrong about Elvish Mystic . I did a ton of testing with him, and when run alongside Sylvan Caryatid and Kiora's Follower , he actually increased my chances of having 6 mana available for See the Unwritten by T4 by a significant margin. I tip my hat to you for showing me the light.

I did as you suggested and took counter spells out to make room. I'm not sure if this is the right call yet, but it's gone well so far so it will most likely remain this way.

The recent changes have made this deck MUCH faster and sturdier, thanks to everyone who contributed. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

One idea I've been toying with is replacing 2x Keranos, God of Storms with Xenagos, God of Revels .

I like the draw and removal of Keranos, but it just seems like Xenagod could end games extremely quickly. If he's out, that's a 16/16 hasty kraken staring you down, which could very well be game that turn due to painlands etc.

Anyone have experience running Xenagod? Is he the better option here?

Decided to put +3 Circle of Flame in the SB, to help deal with token decks and stall out aggro.

Haldred says... #9

if you have krakens, why not +2 Kiora, the Crashing Wave

October 1, 2014 10 a.m.

sujrondc says... #10

@Haldred

I used to have Kiora in here back when this was more of a control shell, but I found she would just get pinged right away almost every time.

I like her alot, and I would love for her to work in here, but she just hasn't performed as well as I would have liked. I would rather spend that time ramping into See the Unwritten , since basically the effectiveness of this deck relies heavily on how quickly I can pull one off.

Hi Suj, it's funny cause an Unwritten + Levy was the first idea of deck I had when Khans came out. I just love Stormtide Leviathan haha. So cool to see their faces with lots of creatures stuck. And also your deck was the first I saw when I registered here.

Anyways, my deck is only Blue and Green, I never splashed to Red and I don't use Tomokratis.

I use 3 Hornet Queen to stop flying stuff + 4 Boon Satyr and 4 Arbor Colossus for Ferocious and it's been working pretty well. The thing is, I use 3 Archetype of Endurance cause if a Levy falls along with him its GG almost everytime.

But I got curious to see how your deck works, Xenagos is really a great idea.

Thanks for the support! Krakens are a wonderful thing, and it's great to see some more love for Stormtide Leviathan . I've been playing with him a long time, and I'm glad he's seeing play in other decks too now!

Very interesting suggestions. I might have to try Boon Satyr for ferocious activation. He's easier for me to cast than Savage Knuckleblade , and I can even bestow him late game. I really like how versatile the knuckler is, but I'll have to do some playtesting because I think you might be right here.

Archetype of Endurance is very tempting, I've wrestled with the idea quite a bit, but I've found Archetype of Imagination just absolutely cripples all decks that don't run removal. And being able to swing freely with mana dorks for those last couple points of damage really helps. I might put some Archetype of Endurance in the SB for removal heavy matchups though, because they give me a really hard time.

Honestly, splashing red is one of the better choices I've made. Yes, the mana screw becomes a problem slightly more often, but not enough to be a concern. Red has just provided me with the extra punch I need to close out those close games. Burning Anger + Kiora's Follower is a beautiful thing when it happens, especially with Tromokratis . I can't say enough good things about Xenagod, pulling a hasty 16/16 Levy with STU feels amazing. I've honestly debated going to 3 of him, but it's too many dead draws for my liking.

If you ever post your deck on here let me know, I'd love to take a look at it!

did you try Reclamation Sage at all? i was wondering if it would be better than naturalize as you could grab it with See the Unwritten and get a 2/1 body afterwards.

October 14, 2014 11:49 a.m.

sujrondc says... #15

Good point DiEaBoLiK, anything to give less of a chance of STU pulling nothing is good. I'll make that switch.

Thanks!

What do people think of Taigam's Scheming ? The only thing I would consider removing would be counters. I like the idea of pretty much guaranteeing a STU + Kraken combo, but then I'd be leaving myself wide open for walkers and removal.

October 14, 2014 12:02 p.m.

gregfiction says... #16

hey suj

erased my comment, what gives?just kidding hehe

scheming is a really good idea, for both our decks

have you thought of Crater's Claws ? with all those mana dorks and Xengod, plus Ferocious etc.. would be a great finisher/removal.

My deck goes like this http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/see-the-levritten/ if you wanna give me sugestions(you have no idea how good it is to use Hornet Queen

cya! haha

Ah, also, against decks that use burn it's nice to cast Boon Satyr with flash EOT and smash them with See the Unwritten in the following turn, so you can surprise them.

I use Back to Nature in my SB, it works really great cause sometimes you take out 2 Banishing Light and 2 Courser of Kruphix with only one card!

And since there's not much removal available in GU, Curse of the Swine saves my ass practically every game, turning Stormbreath Dragon s, Siege Rhino s and Butcher of the Horde s into simple PIGS. hahaha

October 15, 2014 10:06 a.m.

sujrondc says... #18

@gregfiction

I've tried Back to Nature , and I might try it again, but the problem for me is taking out my Burning Anger , archetypes, and Boon Satyr if I have them out. That, and more often than not it becomes a casualty of STU, so I'm thinking Reclamation Sage is the way to go. That said, I'll playtest and see how I like it.

Curse of the Swine I've tried. I like it, but it's too slow for me. I need my turns to play whatever I can, so the sorcery speed really hurts. Thanks for the suggestions though, it's always good to get some feedback!

I'll take a look at your deck in a bit, and see if I have any suggestions for it.

Add 4x Stubborn Denial . I think that despite the fact that Tromokratis is immune to sorcery speed removal and is just dumb with burning anger, I think that there are to many noncreature spells to disrupt your strategy. I would stick at leat 2 of Stubborn Denial in the main, as nearly every deck in standard will have plenty of worthwhile targets. At least you should put a few of them in sb. Nice deck tho!

November 4, 2014 7:48 p.m.

sujrondc says... #23

@llamaglama01
I tried having counters in the main for a very long time, and I always found they were a bit lackluster for this build. I love the idea of them, but I've found in game 1 it's important for me to have the best chance to hit all the pieces I need to. I will however switch out my Dissolve for Stubborn Denial in the SB so I can bring them in against matchups where I really need them. Great idea!

playtested it once. swung with a 28/28 Stormtide Leviathan with flying on turn 7. +1

I think I'd take out burning anger for Crater's Claws. Cool deck btw +1.
