This Ain't the Army, Boy. Fall Behind? Get Eaten.

Hello, and welcome to my Negan primer! Yes, you read that right, Negan primer. He's the new spoiler from Secret Lair: The Walking Dead. While their is some controversy surrounding the product, such as the very limited print run and the fact that's it's legal in eternal formats, he's a heckin' cool commander, so we're going to build him! Let's look at the card in question:

Negan, the Cold Blooded

2RWB

When Negan enters the battlfield, you and target opponent choose a creature that player controls. Then those creatures are revealed, and that player sacrifices those creatures.

Whenever an opponent sacrifices a creature, you create a Treasure token.

4/3

Observation One: Looking solely from a p/t perspective, he's overcosted, but that's not what we're here for. We're here for that juicy ramp! Which leads to

Observation Two: He ramps! And oh, how he ramps. We've had some good stand-alone ramp cards in Mardu colors, like Smothering Tithe or Dockside Extortionist, but now we have some in the command zone!

Observation 3: This guy likes sacrificing. Not us sacrificing, he doesn't want to get his hands dirty. No, we'll let our enemies do the dirty work for us. We want our opponents to sacrifice their own creatures, and get sweet value!

They Don't Sell a Lot of Brains in the Local 24-hour Grocery Store. We want our opponents to be sacrificing zombies all day, every day. To do this, we want Negan out early. We use a bunch of mana rocks, from Signets to Talismans to good old faithful Sol Ring. When he comes out, we'll automatically have at least one Treasure Token, but it's our supplementary sacrificial cards that really shine with him: Fleshbag Marauder, Sheoldred, Whispering One, Archfiend of Depravity. More coming soon! Hope you lked the primer! If you did, consider upvoting! Thanks!
