This deck doesn't give hugs around every corner, but I'm stepping back from the usual stax that Derevi is infamous for. Yes, I'm looking at you Winter Orb >.>

This deck is more focused around good tap abilities and creating a big, evasive board state of creatures, and built more for lighthearted casual that can still win when it wants to. However, this deck fears combat restraints as it's central strategy is focused around evasion and connecting to the opponent.

Notable Inclusions (the foil cards) Show

Dismiss into Dream - If this resolves, the amount of value it accumulates pays far past it's seven mana cost. Each of your opponent's creatures targeted with a spell or ability, including your opponent's spells and abilities and including all the tap and untap Derevi offers, is now vulnerable to sacrificial removal. This directly synergizes with Derevi, Derevi's instantaneous activated ability that can't be countered, and each creature you control in a grotesque way that permits one-sided board wipes, possibly without you lifting a finger, and since it's not a fire-and-forget spell, it's there to stay for further manipulation (which enables you to not only pull yourself out of loosing, but start winning). Furthermore, it's very cheap. This, and Willbreaker , are my first recommendations if you're building a Derevi deck.

Energy Arc - It untaps all your glorious tap abilities on creatures, it also leaves them able to block in another combat phase, it can save you by fogging , it can also save your allies to strengthen bonds or bargain for more, it gives more incentive to attack as you can save all your creatures, or all except the unblocked ones (which is very good in a Derevi deck). Six reasons why this card is another staple in this Derevi deck.

Willbreaker - This card is similar to the other staple I recommend first above the other staples: Dismiss into Dream . Willbreaker can make or break your will in a game, but it's weakness is not on par with its strengths. Of course it's vulnerable to sweepers , spot removal , etc, and is extra horrible when it's removed as all your gained creatures go back to their owners, but it's insanely valuable when it's on the battlefield. All the tap and untap that Derevi offers puts you in an insurmountable position as you can steal each of your opponent's creatures (and all their boons, and gives more purpose to all the tap, untap, and unblockable abilities you have), potentially making all your creatures and your cough ...acquired creatures unblockable, or act as a one-sided board wipe with a sacrifice outlet. There's so much potential and strategies this card enables, these ideas were just off the top of my head. However, this card also can make you the enemy of the state in the game, so be sure to use it wisely and during that turn. Again, Willbreaker is the highest staple in the deck, and the first recommendation, right next to Dismiss into Dream

Kruphix - Derevi loves any way of storing mana and ramp acceleration, and Kruphix does this godly. Kruphix can store your mana and no one elses, can store your cards in hand and no one elses, and can withstand removal with "destroy". With Kruphix on the battlefield, Derevi will never waste all the tap and untap as you can store your mana past the combat phase and beyond.

Whirler Rogue - My favorite blue card, which happens to synergize well with the Derevi. If you've air superiority on at least one player, Rogue plops out some flyers; when your opponent has an impressive board state, has low life, or is faced against your big beaters, laugh as you surpass thier defenses with a four mana rogue. Furthermore, Winona Nelson crafted beautiful art. I imagine the rogue using her relics to distract the enemy forces while a creature of yours is able to slip through, or her swiftly hopping on her flying relics high above her threats to reach her target. I also like the art because it reminds me of Vin from Mistborn (a novel by Brandon Sanderson).

Saltcrusted Steppe and Calciform Pools - One of the three best lands in the deck, and for good reason. Derevi loves storage. Just like Kruphix , it can store your mana and no one elses whilst ensuring your tap and untap strategy never go to waste. These lands also offer mana fixing (w/o themselves tapping for it).

+ Birthing Pod + Avacyn's Pilgrim + Elvish Mystic + Fyndhorn Elves + Llanowar Elves ; - Ley Weaver - Lore Weaver - Paradox Engine - Skyward Eye Prophets - Dragon Throne of Tarkir . After looking at the most top rated decks on tappedout, most of the Derevi decks include the elves and Birthing Pod, and it's no wonder why. The elves provide 1-drop ramp pieces, targets for Yisan, the Wanderer Bard , mana acceleration that isn't disrupted with Winter Orb , and beat sticks for Derevi. Birthing Pod provides a valuable tap effect for Derevi triggers, and Derevi herself provides a repeatable target for Birthing Pod for four mana.

+ Teferi's Veil + Mystic Snake + Selfless Spirit + Heroic Intervention + Shalai, Voice of Plenty ; - Blinding Angel - Flitterstep Eidolon - Wargate - Grand Abolisher - Reality Shift . This deck is very reliant on the creature borad state to win, so I put more protection in. Shalai is also an instantaneous mana sink for Derevi, which is very important.

+ Bident of Thassa ; - Deepfathom Skulker . Bident should be a better draw engine, it won't be destroyed after a board wipe and can clear the combat map.

+ Dusk ; - Worldslayer . I don't have any cards that synergize with Worldslayer, and Dusk/Dawn shouldn't blow up my board too much while providing some graveyard interaction.

+ Faerie Artisans + Loyal Drake + Elspeth, Sun's Champion +Forest; - Wonder - Trygon Predator - Leyline of Anticipation - Vedalken Orrery .

+ Worldslayer ; - Supreme Verdict . A more unique sweeper to Derevi, especially against decks that ramp out a bunch of their lands. This makes more a more healthy game, in some aspects at least.

+ Crystallization ; - Aura Shards . Crystallization is a more unique removal spell for this deck, as any of Derevi's triggers can make the creature's controller sacrifice it.

+Azor's Gate; - Plasm Capture . This deck is structured around enabling (un)tap synergies. Gate is a great card for any EDH deck, but when paired with this deck, it's value is skyrocketed.

+ Augury Adept ; - Benefactor's Draught . Only a portion of the (un)tap synergies are on creatures, so I figured I would replace Draught with another draw source.

+ Dowsing Dagger  ; - Spawning Pit . Dagger is made for the deck, and I think was the inspiration to build this deck. Pit was just an OK insurance policy against a board wipe; If I miss it that much, I'll just add Teferi's Veil or Heroic Intervention or Legion's Landing  .

+ Gemstone Array ; - Chromatic Lantern . Derevi loves mana storage. There's a reason why Kruphix and storage lands are the highlights of the deck.

+ Open Into Wonder ; - Venser, the Sojourner . Arguably better and more consistent evasion, especially considering how much Derevi loves ramp, and how it guarantees more draw for that ramp.

+ Sphinx's Revelation ; - Urban Evolution . Sphinx is instantaneous, manipulatable to all the ramp Derevi loves, and can bring you out of the shithole better.

+ Ocular Halo ; - Rhystic Study . I'd rather have a guaranteed draw engine that's manipulatable to untap and gives more purpose to unblockables.

+ Skyward Eye Prophets ; - Arcanis . A less threatening, and arguably better draw engine.

+ Azami, Lady of Scrolls ; - Cold-Eyed Selkie . Azami is a better engine, can make more use of the commander and others, and can be manipulated with tap or untap.

+ Benefactor's Draught ; - Terrifying Presence . Yes, Presence can save you and gives more incentive to attack as you can just pick the creature not blocked. But, Draught can untap all the glorious tap, reinforces and strengthen allies, and can draw a bunch.

The rest of this update is stripping this deck almost entirely on stax, tax, hatebears, and types of control. A lot of people build Derevi with these themes, but I'm not a control player at heart. I don't want my deck to stop others from playing the game until I win, I want some good tap abilities that can also be competitive at times of need. However, changing a massive part of the deck doesn't mean it's less competitive, it's just a change of themes that could potentially make it more competitive.
