I opened up a pack of Masters 25 when it came out and Darien was the rare. So I said I would turn him into a commander. This deck has a high CMC commander, so mana ramp is really needed. Caged Sun does this and also does a good job of pumping our little soldier boys. That, with all the other pumps like Eldrazi Monument, Coat of Arms, and Heraldic Banner, keep us relevant as bigger creatures start taking up the board later in the game. Since pain is how we get our board to populate, there are some basic self-harm cards like Jade Monolith and Nomad Stadium with Blood of the Martyr being a nice trick as well that can save a friend at the table and give you many tokens as you direct that damage from them to you. There is a bunch of life gain tricks here like Daxos, Blessed by the Sun and my personal favorite Suture Priest that will help you come out even when making tokens. The control pieces are mainly board wipe style with cards like Citywide Bust and Slaughter the Strong. These are more focused on removing opponent's big things and keeping your small soldiers standing tall. These effects will help you stay alive until you get your engine rolling. Everything else in here is just some classic soldier tribal. This will never be greater than a 6 power, but I still enjoy busting it out every time.
