Upgrade on foils and DOMINARIA —April 26, 2018

New foils:

  • Metalwork Colossusfoil: Changed my opinion on cutting him and will definetly keep him in here since he does so much stuff this deck wants to do (protect Daretti, great sac fodder and sac option in one card).
  • Myriad Landscapefoil: First foil appearance and I'm glad to have the only reprint of a card out of the best Commander precon (C14) in Masters 25 in here. (It's also the only foil reprint of a C14 original since Freyalise in Commander Anthology)
  • Nevinyrral's Diskfoil: Key piece of the deck since mass removals are so important in EDH (especially for enchantments) and a great polotical card too.

FOIL COUNT: 22

Dominara adds:

  • Zhalfirin Void > Mountain: Great new top deck manipuilation option for this deck whch is great utility for Daretti's +2 and other looting effects
  • currently PLAYTESTING Jhoira's Familiar > Oracle's Vault: I might overhype this dude but it think he is great. He is basically a 4 CMC Foundry Inspector with evasion that also makes Daretti cheaper so he's significantly better and I think the Vault is a worthy cut. However the 4 CMC has me struggling a bit because I actually want to drop Daretti at turn 4 if not earlier. So I'm testing him first.

For starters, I love your description! I want to hire you to do this for all of my decks (because a) I don't know syntax this well and b) I'm too lazy to do it myself! :D)

Secondly, thoughts on Pia's Revolution for artifact decks like this? It's basically an Athreos for artifacts, so I feel like it's usually pretty good.

I'm curious, are Hanweir Battlements and Flamekin Village in the deck strictly as Haste enablers? Would Hammer of Purphoros not accomplish the same thing?

Overall, very sweet looking deck and not too expensive, either. Great job! +1!

Haha, I myself only did that on my Daretti list because he is by far my favourite. If you really want such a description just PM me, we will find a way.

With Pia's Revolution you give your opponents the choice of putting artifacts into your graveyard or into your hand (3 damage is absolutely negligible in EDH). However, artifacts are usually more valuable in your graveyard. Imagine your Mycosynth Lattice which you spent 2 turns on to get it into your graveyard and reanimate it gets destroyed and back to your hand. It's not really what we want.

If I was rich and could affort a Crucible of Worlds I would consider the Hammer. But since the activated ability is pretty janky and we only need haste on a handful of creatures the lands are better imo.

Thanks appreciate the kind words. :)

Fantastic deck! Looks easy and fun to play and will catch a lot of players off guard. Great work. Have you considered stuff like Magus of the Wheel or Reforge the Soul to help you get some more artifacts in your graveyard (which Daretti can target)? Maybe even some options for self-milling?

Since you like playing mono-red, I wonder if you could take a look at my Purphoros deck. Its strategy is obviously different compared to this deck's, but you might have some insights I've overlooked. Thanks.

Nice Daretti build. I particularly like the use that you could get out of Contagion Engine, I might need to find a spot for that in my own daretti deck.

One thing i might consider for this deck would be a Myr Turbine for the sac outlet. You have a lot of cards in here that would benefit from having cheap myrs to sac out. Skullclamp, Kuldotha Forgemaster, and Trading Post just to name a few.
