I was feeling nostalgic while I visited a local game store, and I bought the Mind Seize precon from about 10 years ago. I wanted to refine Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge, because I learned that playing her is very different from my usual commander decks that focus on building value engines; Jeleva likes being cast, likes being killed, and cast again to reap more instants and sorceries from all decks around. So, I decided to fill my deck with board wipes and some odd support that fits her niche, so that I can benefit playing opponents’ spells and then resetting Jeleva from my own spells. It has the wonkiest CMC average.

Also, Umbris, Fear Manifest can get GIGANTIC and it seems there are quite a few good horrors/nightmares to slot in here. Umbris is only a beater, but there’s some fun synergies with Ashiok, Nightmare Muse too.

Naturally, there’s some ways I can return Jeleva to hand, in case she starts costing too much to keep up, like Crystal Shard or Netherborn Altar.

Ultimately, this does end up playing sort of like a mill deck. It’s weird and fun, and a different, bizarre, interactive thing to play at my table.
