Cromat Storm - "Storm Cro"

Commander / EDH

kindo.crappy

A proof of concept 5 colour storm deck in EDH, I built this with mostly what I had spare (which is why there are some non-optimal choices).

The aim was not to go infinite with the storm count, but rather build it up as you would with a modern/legacy storm deck (There is technically an unintentional infinite combo in it, but I won't go into details, you can figure it out yourself).

How It Works

The deck starts out playing like any old group hug deck, lots of card-draw, extra lands etc. The idea is to use this time to ramp as much as possible, and maintain a reasonably big hang, whilst avoiding any attention.

Casting Cromat early can be a good wall, to avoid any initial attention.

Once you feel you have enough cards and lands in play, it's time to storm off. There are 3 main storm win conditions in the deck (Empty the Warrens is just a filler card really); Hunting Pack, Tendrils of Agony and Ignite Memories. Gaining storm count works very much like it does in any normal storm deck, but keeping in mind that you need a high enough storm count to knock out multiple players in one go. To assist with this, Strionic Resonator can copy the Storm trigger, since it's a triggered ability.

Enter the Infinite acts as a sort of back-up plan, allowing for a few interactions. Aside from the obvious 'draw entire deck' aspect, you can make use of the cards by discarding them to Zombie Infestation . or exiling them to Cadaverous Bloom to get some more mana. If you dump the entire deck into the graveyard, you can use it as an alternate win condition with Psychic Spiral.

Basically whatever the situation, there's usually a way you can work with it.

Drawbacks

Aside from the usual storm weaknesses, there are a few problems:Firstly, graveyard hate can really mess this deck up, as it requires its graveyard to be cycled back into library to remain effective.

Next, it lacks removal, this could be fixed, but I have no intention of doing so at the moment, but it would definitely improve its chances of surviving.

Benefits

It's an obscure way of going about storm, people won't see it coming the first time around.

There is nothing to 'steal' from the deck, this deck makes a poor target for things like Bribery, and other similar effects.

Final Thoughts

I found that using some of the cantrips was not proving very card efficient, especially in EDH, so I decided to opt for things like Divination, in favour of them.

There's a few things they deck could use, like Rift Sweeper to help get back some exiled cards, but overall it's not too bad as it is. Feel free to make suggestions!
