Hello! I'm a longtime commander player, and I frequently catch flak for playing too many "unfun" infinite combo decks. So I set out to build a more "fun" deck that does finite things!

Exponential math is fun. For example, 370 trillion treasure tokens is a finite number. Hooray for fun!

WIP, still lots of precon cards, suggestions welcome.

TL;DR this deck came from a slow-grow league brew. But my idea for the deck is much older, from discussions I had with friends more than a year ago about how to make broken game states in Magic:

"First, you get 50ish mana. You cast Master Biomancer . Next, you cast Clever Impersonator . Don't copy anything - it'll just be a 2/2. Now, you play a Doubling Season . Cast a kicked Rite of Replication on the Clever Impersonator, and have the 10 copies enter as Doubling Seasons. Now play Eternal Witness and do it again. You now have more than 10,000 Doubling Seasons. Play Avenger of Zendikar . Now you have more 0/1 Plant tokens than there are atoms in the universe, and they all enter with that many +1/+1 counters. Have fun, Timmy."

The whole reason why this idiotic exponential math works is because we jump through a lot of hoops to allow Rite of Replication to target Parallel Lives .

Enter Adrix and Nev, Twincasters .

The Legendary rule is the only thing keeping this card away from those crazy Timmy lines. And, spoiler alert, WOTC has been printing a LOT of ways to cheat the Legend rule recently. It's almost as if they're challenging people: "Screw reasonable, value-oriented token decks. Make a few million Adrix & Nev tokens!"

So that's what this deck does.

Apply a logarithmic scale Show

We've got a specific winning game state in mind: Many, many copies of Adrix & Nev. Step 1 is to find a way to get a nonlegendary version of the merfolk twins, so that we can proceed with Step 2: Cloning the shit out of said nonlegendary twins. THIS IS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY CATEGORY WHERE I AM LOOKING TO OBTAIN MORE CARDS .

Helm of the Host performs this process the most smoothly. Turn 1: Play and equip, generate 2 token copies, protect them. Turn 2: Move to combat, generate 8 more copies. Now 1 token gets multiplied into 2048.

Spark Double sequences down smoothly on our curve. Spark Double followed by any clone spell gets us 6 total A&Ns, so we multiply our tokens by 64.

Double Major is a little fiddly; I find it's best played when A&N have died to a Wrath and we're redeploying on an empty field. Aside from its interaction with Second Harvest , the result is the same as Spark Double.

Echoing Equation (the flip side of Augmenter Pugilist) usually gets us 3 or 4 A&N copies - sometimes many more. The trick is to sequence this play carefully so we don't transform something we want to copy a lot later.

Mystic Reflection and Second Harvest can turn one A&N token into a large army.

As you might imagine, there are a ton of ways to make clones in this deck. We're avoiding cards like Clone in favor of token-generating spells, especially ones with multiple uses:

Quasiduplicate Jump-start gives us an outlet once we've made more A&N

Replication Technique Excellent technique: Resolve the copy on A&N, then resolve the original on a Command Tower !

Rite of Replication Often, we don't need to kick this.

Saheeli's Artistry Simultaneously cloning A&N and an Arcane Signet or Sol Ring gets us a ton of value.

Spitting Image Retrace is occasionally relevant, similar to Quasiduplicate.

Stolen Identity Can be used to clone opponents' mana rocks like Saheeli's.

Bramble Sovereign Mono-green Riku . Cheap and repeatable.

So we've got Adrix & Nev out. Good deal. Maybe we've even cloned them once or twice. Cool. But other than attacking with a couple 2/2 scalyboiz, what's our main payoff here?

First of all, we still have a couple of big creature-token-generating bombs:

Avenger of Zendikar Many plants!

Deep Forest Hermit Many squirrels!

Ezuri's Predation Many beasts! (The ruling on predation with token doublers is that the extra tokens don't fight.)

These cards are important to enable plays such as Mystic Reflection , Echoing Equation and Shamanic Revelation to get decent value. I'm also focusing on good clone targets - even with a single A&N out, cloning Hermit creates an army of twenty-four 4/4 squirrels. Pretty deece for a beatdown plan.

But we can do better. Treasure tokens are a simple and effective way to capitalize on having a couple A&Ns out, expanding our mana pool rapidly:

Spell Swindle A bit overcosted but a game-winning blowout worth the risk.

If we've got a boatload of treasure sitting around, Blue Sun's Zenith serve as a 100-mana dump to instakill players. This is the simplest way the deck wins legitimately in a single turn without combat damage or infinite combos. Beyond BSZ, we're going digging through the deck to find other things to do:

Champion of Wits is one of the best cards from the precon. Eternalizing the Champion with A&N lets us draw 8/discard 4 at least, and with more twins, we can dig forever.

Timeless Witness With the extreme value off Eternalize and a couple A&N clones, we can basically cast a Praetor's Counsel with this card.

Mimic Vat The Vat doesn't let us clone creatures already in play, but it does let us make tons of token copies of a card, which can easily go nutty.

Crafty Cutpurse All Your Treasure Token Are Belong To Us.

Risen Reef Reef has to be the most entertaining creature in this deck to clone. Since the Reefs trigger on each other, we can dig super deep into the deck with just 5 or 7 Reefs (20 and 42 cards respectively,) and since the trigger isn't a draw, it's perfectly fine to just slam down a dozen Reefs and pick up our deck.

Amphin Mutineer Because we clearly needed to make a dozen copies of cut-rate Duplicant . Blueplicant?

Glen Elendra Archmage Cloning the Archmage a lot fixes the whole problem of needing to protect our creatures.

Elvish Archdruid and Priest of Titania both generate mana in HUGE quantities if we clone them even a couple times, hence the small Elf subtheme.

Thassa's Oracle YES! There is indeed an Oracle in here, for the most entertaining reason possible: Forget drawing our whole deck, we can break 100 devotion to blue VERY quickly!

Slow value and control play Show

So there are two major takeaways about this deck's playstyle. The first is that we're not here to slam down a couple of Fractals and Hydras and hope to jam in lethal combat damage; we're going for the full Timmy gamestate. The second is that our intended winning game state is WAY lategame, so we absolutely have to find ways to get value and keep scaling earlier on.

Card draw matters a lot

We run a ton of instants and sorceries for a good reason: making token copies of things is usually an effect on a sorcery. That said, decks like this need to have a consistent plan to draw cards and refill on fuel:
