Liliana's Contract

I need one so bad. Funny story. I built this deck and tested it out with my friends. A day later Liliana's Contract was spoiled.

You say one of the deck's weaknesses is dealing with counterspells. How about adding cards like Mana Web and/or Defense Grid?

Mana Web is not a bad idea. Defense Grid might not be strong enough for the situation in my head. I put in Nightmare Incursion for some of those pesky blue

Are you sure about that? Defense Grid absolutely kills blue-counter players in early stages of a game (first 5-6 turns or so). It's cheap to cast for you, but forces blue reactionary decks to pay massive extra amounts of mana that they typically do not have in this stage. Sure, after the early phase of a game the value of this card diminishes somewhat as mana becomes more abundant but still, this card will be quite the nuisance. Furthermore, you will not experience any harm from it since your deck isn't reactionary at all.

On second thought I think it's good. Maybe better. I am not sure it's perfect. Because I will not be the one stopping combos opponents will be doing when it's not my turn that will be up to the other players. So idk. Cards more like a Grand Abolisher is perfect. But idk what they are.

I knew I hated demons for a reason ... this deck is disgusting so you are doing something right! XD I think Kindred Dominance would fit well in this deck. Where is Westvale Abbey  ^Flip? It is a good land and you can get a demon. May I also suggest Tainted Remedy? It is useful against lifegain but also it is synergy. Liliana's pact tainted the remedy she gave to her brother. Demonic Tutor is syngergy too. I hope some of these have helped!

@ Ravenrose, I really don't want to take to many swamps away from the deck. I want Cabal Stronghold to still be strong. Mana ramp is a huge and important part of what makes this deck run strong and smooth. So although Westvale Abbey  ^Flip fits the role it will take away from the ramp package ever so slightly. It's in the maybeboard. I'll have to test it first. Its probably the easiest to slot in and test too. P.s Withengar Unbound is way cooler than Ormendahl, Profane Prince

As for Tainted Remedy, that card against me is a nightmare but in this deck it's almost pointless. I run 2 cards that stop your opponents from gaining life.

Kindred Dominance would fit in good. I could maybe swap the cacodemon for it. Im gonna consider it and put it in the maybe board and test it out.

I actually don't own a Demonic Tutor if i did i still wouldnt put it in here because it would be redundant. Razaketh tutors just fine. Tanks for the suggestions.

I think what Ravenrose meant is that it's demon tribal and so you should run demonic tutor because it's the tutor of a demon. But IDK. However I think the deck looks cool, nice job keeping the mana curve not obscenely high.

Well it is indeed flavor packed. Like I said I don't own one and they are a bit pricey

what about Bontu's Monument? make your Demons just a tad cheaper and when you play one your opponents bleed (lose life non-damage wise) and you gain life.

@ticked-off-squirrel, perhaps. It's a good card but it's 3 mana and only reduces the cost of my creatures. The life gain and drain is good but doesn't add to the strength of the deck. Compare it to Jet Medallion for 2 mana reduces all my black spells, I can play it on turn 2 and turn 3 play Crypt Ghast or Abyssal Persecutor.

I recommend adding Vesuva and Thespian's Stage to copy coffers. This shouldnt affect cabal stronghold too much. I know you don't want to remove too many swamps, its very much worth adding these 2, I cannot speak highly enough of them. A flexible mana base, ESPECIALLY in mono black where urborg helps with colorfixing is HIGHLY worth it. Speaking of strongholds, Volrath's Stronghold is useful as well. Mirage Mirror is versatile tility and can copy coffers too!

I dont see any way for you to deal with artifacts/enchantments other than nev disk. I would recommend adding some of the following All Is Dust, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Karn Liberated, Oblivion Stone or the budget counterparts like Lux Cannon, Ratchet Bomb, Spine of Ish Sah, etc...

Corpse Dance could be fun, recur top creature, sac is to commander. Repeatable for 5 mana seems good.

My black deck also is weak to counterspells, as my main (though I do have other options) wincon is a large X spell. You might want to consider Conqueror's Flail or maybe even Boseiju, Who Shelters All. Other people mentioned mana web and the defense grid. I recommend either one or the other, not both. Mana web works well with urborg but doesnt take into account mana dorks/rocks. Defense grid's benefits were explained by a previous user who summed it up quite well. The choice is yours. Additionally, hand disruption is useful in general and will force a blue player to use a counterspell. A great example of this is Mind Twist.

Lastly, Griffstick has a huge.....deck :)

@Profet93, do I know you? Cause that very last thing you said, Only people who personally know me would say things like that lol. Anyway you make a lot of good points. Now the thing about those cards are they make a great reset button for when things get out of hand or go wrong. Like Tainted Remedy would destroy me. So i need at least one way to deal with those kind of things. I like all the land suggestions. And the Conqueror's Flail. All suggestions will be considered. I own most of those cards so I can give then a trial and error and see if they are a good fit.. but those lands it's gonna go in for sure. Cabal Stronghold just isn't strong enough.
