Maybeboard

An early concept at a more fun/casual food-themed deck. Still contemplating how I want to build it. Might want to throw in more silly food cards, but I might also want to slim some of the fat and optimize a little. For now, I’m just working on ensuring I have an appropriate amount of removal, ramp, draw, and a solid mana curve.

(I ultimately really just wanted a deck that could properly utilize Witch of the Moors, since I have a soft spot for that card.)

So far, playtests are pretty solid. Ramp and curve are pretty solid. Powerlevel is acceptable for my playgroup (although we’ve yet to meet up since completing this deck, so time will tell). The only real issue is the occasional game where card draw is slightly sparse or we end up durdling a bit in the late game. These issues may be resolved, or kept as a way to keep games in my group balanced/more interesting. I’m really enjoying the synergies with Veinwitch Coven and High Market; it’s a bit slow, but it’s a solid value engine. Cauldron Familiar is an All-Star (not surprising). One other side interaction I’m enjoying, synergies with l the new The Underworld Cookbook. It’s nice to have another solid food generator.

I appreciate all the feedback and support, everyone! I’ll hopefully have more updates soon!

Updates Add

Not sure if this is a shift in focus for the deck or not. Anyways, here's an update.

OUT >>>IN

  1. Bane of Progress >>> Fangren Marauder - This change I'm honestly on the fence about. Bane is something I find myself being more afraid to cast than I used to. Fangren is a test because it seems really easy to trigger. Well, I'll see how it goes.
  2. Bake into a Pie >>> Infernal Grasp - I'm killing flavor for power. Sue me. I do feel kinda bad about it tho.
  3. Wicked Wolf >>> Yawgmoth, Thran Physician - Another flavor loss, but I could use the card draw. I think this gets absolutely stupid with Cauldron Familiar.
  4. Skyshroud Claim >>> Pitiless Plunderer - This is where things might be changing. Going harder into tokens and aristocrats. I don't really need too much ramp, but in case I do, a combo-enabling ramp engine that has synergy with Cauldron Familiar or Academy Manufactor could be just the ticket.
  5. Taste of Death >>> Chatterfang, Squirrel General - Might as well try to combo with the Pitiless Plunderer. Taste is reaaaaallly clunky, even if it makes food.
  6. Blossoming Bogbeast >>> Bootleggers' Stash - Feeling pretty confident that Blossoming Bogbeast has been relatively outgrown in this deck, but we'll see as time goes on. More treasures = more food?
  7. Inspiring Statuary >>> Jaheira, Friend of the Forest - I think this is the change that could affect the deck overall.
