Time for a little house cleaning. As always, thanks to all who have stopped by and given their 2 cents. Appreciated!

Hornet Queen seems like it would be fun in this deck. :)

That's a great idea MrCheeseOnToast! The casting cost may be a smidge prohibitive but there are certainly ways to cheat the queen out. I'll definitely playtest it, thanks.

You definitely need to add Dryad Arbor for turn 1 green sun shenanigans. Also sacs to pod (only relevant if you add a 1 drop creature cough Birds of Paradise cough) and can be discarded to survival for when you get one of those.

In fact, both of those cards (arbor and birds) would give you a much stronger early game. You would have access to three turn 1 ramp spells, which means you'll hit at least one of them in roughly 28% of your games.

Once again, Traveler247 coming through with the good ideas. I'm going to add both cards, just need to obtain them. Thanks!

So I'm going to play ball with this bold new anti-tuck world we're entering. I can't say I'm overly thrilled at the ruling, but this is not the time or place for yet another wild salt sesh about it. Goodnight Hinder & Spell Crumple, you have served me well over the years.

But now I'm wrestling with this conundrum...

To Bant Charm, or not to Bant Charm, that is the question. It still offers versatility, but ultimately the general tuck was the go to option for me. So I'd like to hear an opinion or 2 - Is it worth keeping in here or should I replace it? If so, what could take it's place?

Still good spells. I don't run the counter spells in my deck. I use Perplexing Chimera, Mystic Snake, and Draining Whelk. You can call it flavor, but I did it because my brother did not want me to run counterspell when I made the deck, so I did that. Works pretty well with stuff like Chord of Calling too.

Thanks Didgeridooda. I've been considering the snake + whelk for a while now, considering how mean they would be paired with Deadeye Navigator. Definitely something to consider. So much considering!

While i know these aren't the most accessible cards, I've replaced Hinder with Cryptic Command, Spell Crumple with Dismiss while looking for a Mana Drain, and Bant Charm with Chord of Calling, since that wasn't in my deck. I don't have that on tapped out though. That ruling made powerful commanders so much more difficult to interact with, it makes me just want to build a Derevi combo deck, take it to Sheldon's play group, and troll the living hell out of him. Also, I think Cryptic Command is a good replacement for Bant Charm because they both offer versatility, but the command is just better at it.

Traveler247 those are top tier replacements I agree. I just suggested the creatures for the idea since my Roon deck is a filthy casual lol.

The tuck rule change is unfortunate, but now we just have to build accordingly. The tuck counters are going to stay in my decks though. Tucking a non commander threat is still going to be a nice move. But they are going to be far less effective for sure.

I have a bunch of changes to make because of it. I really liked having that option, but I understand because tuck was a little bit OP.

I really like running the 2 cost mana rocks. They hold a good spot on my curve. Talisman of Progress is my favorite, but the signets are pretty good too.

A few other options for this deck with regard to replacements: Beast Within, Portcullis, Arcane Denial, and Evacuation have all been solid cards for me.

Had a good laugh at the thought of you trolling Sheldon & co. with Derevi. A stranger walks in, sits down at the table, shuffles Derevi deck, no one can stop Derevi, stranger has an answer to every play & completely dominates the table, stranger makes intense eye contact with Sheldon and quietly states "I've proven my point." Stranger gets up to leave and hears a faint "W-wh-who are you?"

"I'm Traveler247. Now rescind the damn tuck rule." .slams door.

Solid suggestions guys. I would definitely run Cryptic Command in every deck that runs blue but alas, I don't own a single copy. Just checked the price and I'll have to do some heavy trading in order to secure 1 or 2 commands. For the moment I've gone with good 'ol Counterspell and Dissipate. I just figure a hard counter is still probably better than giving my opponent a chance to play/tutor the threat again later. Nice that Dissipate exiles as well (looks at Eldrazi). As for the charm, I think I've decided to play with it for a while longer to see if it still has merit.

Mangara of Corondor is pretty fun with flicker effects, the tap is the cost so you can tap him, exile him, and still get the exile permanent effect.

Very interesting, what a cruel little trick! Additional removal isn't a bad thing, I'll have to play test him.

Have you considered spiketail hatchling/drakeling/drake? Pretty easy to soft lock with early game hatchling.

Also if you happen to add perplexing chimera as in a previous suggestion, make sure to run homeward path.

I haven't considered any of the spiketail critters, no. Interesting idea but I'm not certain they'd provide enough value - I'd sooner run more hard counterspells instead.

The beauty of Perplexing Chimera in a blink deck is that it can simply be blinked back under my control. That said, Homeward Path is definitely nice insurance in most decks.

another I was considering in my Room was sudden disappearance... Never made it in but the ability to basically cyclonic rift someone for a turn isn't bad and with all the flickerable targets it maybe worth looking into. I only ever tried running spiketail drakeling in my deck and it was pretty good when I had a means to flash it out, occasionally soulbonding it to deadeye. The other card that I would STRONGLY recommend is nearheath pilgrim. It looks good in theory, and is actually better when you see it out in play... Saved me sooo many times.

If Sudden Disappearance were an instant, I might consider it but even then the casting cost is a little steep. Sorcery speed doesn't provide enough versatility when compared to the other flicker shenanigans I've got going on in here. As for Nearheath Pilgrim, lifelink isn't the name of Roon's game. I'm looking for versatile control + value & Pilgrim doesn't fit my theme. That's cool that he saved your hide on a few occasions though!

My question is Why no Terastodon?

September 3, 2015 3:25 p.m.

Forkbeard says... #23

I had Terastodon in here before and he's certainly a threat, just too slow. I ended up opting for for faster, more efficient choices.

Snapcaster Mage would be awesome. Restoration Angel can give you a double ETB effect. Woodland Bellower will fetch a creature, Arashin Cleric will gain you life. Cloudshift good way to bounce, can be retrieved with Mnemonic Wall. Gatecreeper Vine can find you a land, Wingmate Roc can get you a token.

Great suggestions Jimmy_Chinchila, thanks. I ran Restoration Angel and Cloudshift in here at one point but found the blink redundancy was often unnecessary + I wanted to make room for more value blink targets/ETB effects. I still have a few clutch blink spells in here (Ghostly Flicker, Ghostway, Momentary Blink, Parallax Wave) but I'm thinking I could even cut a couple of those too.

I would totally run Snapcaster Mage in here if I had one but alas, I do not. I'll try to trade for him at some point. In the meantime, Archaeomancer serves me well in that regard.

I really like the idea of Woodland Bellower and I have 6 targets for him in here, I may test that card out to see how it performs. I have a decent amount of creature tutor in here already (Green Sun's Zenith, Tooth and Nail, Eladamri's Call, Worldly Tutor, Birthing Pod) but more tutor isn't a bad thing.

Thanks again for the ideas, you've got me thinking! Cheers.
