i went 2-2 at this event. first match i went against affinity and i stomped that match going 2-0. Going against affinity might sound scary since they can summon a ton of creatures in the first few turns, however our deck really loves it when they do that sort of crazy stuff. for example i was able to play Avatar of Might on my second turn (i played first). the real struggle is when the player has a ton of creatures that could chunk block Avatar of Might, i wasnt able to attack in because my opponent was able to play 2 Sojourner's Companion the next turn. I was however able to get the Solitary Confinement + Sythis, Harvest's Hand lock and drained them with Trespasser's Curse. I did my oponent very dirty the second round and was able to win on turn 5. i played a Trespasser's Curse on my turn 2, then played 2 Hunted Phantasms on the following turns, on turn 5 i have Rackdos Charm and was able to wrap the game up.
the second match i went against living end and went 2-1. Living end was actually a tougher matchup, they have so much interaction and card draw it was very tough on the first round. they were able to cascade and cast living end after they cycled all their creatures and attacked in for lethal by turn 4 or 5. however the following games i was able to control my way to a win. bringing in Curse of Silence and Rest in Peace really helped a lot. the opponent was forced to use their side boarded enchantment hate on those cards, and i still have instant speed interaction with the Rakdos Charm. It still was a struggle against them, since they had all sorts of interaction, but i was able to secure a win both times by exiling their graveyard multiple times and playing smart with my spells.
the third match was against mono red prison and that is where i start to falter going 0-2. oh boy what a tough matchup, i feel like even though i lost both times, that rng was not in my favor as both decks were slow and trying to get they win-cons out before the other, and the opponent got their wincons out before i could. the hard part is that they were able to play bloodmoon on turn 3 both games, the first game was devistating as i had no basics, and the second game was a slow bleed as i had all the basics except a island which is what i needed to playing the spells that was in my hand at the time. overall though i was able to survive for a while, till they got their Karn, the Great Creator + Liquimetal Coating. In the end though, i could only blame myself as on the second game, i didnt bring in Stony Silence because i forgot to lol. even then, it was a tough game, i didnt draw any of my sideboard cards in the second game so it was gg.
the fourth and final match was for marbles as i needed 1 more match win in order to get in the prize pool. sadly i fell short and went 1-2. i went against hammer time. first round was very close, i was at 3 life and they were looking to win the first round, however i was able to get the solitary confinement lock and drain them. second round was a push and pull around, we both brought artifact/enchantment hate and we were going at eachother's different stuff. sadly he got the better card draw and was able to win the match. the third and final match was another push and pull, though what helped him win was a slight mistake on my part. for this round i could have played Hunted Phantasm as a blocker card, however i was already at 5 life so it would have been suicide against him. a few turns previously though i used dressed down to stop their Stoneforge Mystic trigger going off. perhaps if i saved the dress-down and played it on my turn to player the phantasm, i could have survived longer to draw the lock, but who knows it was a very close match and very fun.
overall, this deck performed great, everyone was very interested in how my deck was playing and loved the jank (well except the affinity player, he kinda had a hissy fit). overall this deck performed great and i cant wait to play it again.
