Time for some Chandra lore!

Chandra Nalaar was born on Kaladesh 25 years ago to Pia and Kiran Nalaar. As a child on Kaladesh, she was hunted by Baral, Chief of Compliance for being a pyromancer. Her family fled the consulate to a village near Girapur, but the Consulate came and burned down the village and killed Kiran, falsely accused Chandra of doing it, then took her back to Girapur, where they attempted to execute her, instead triggering her planeswalker spark.

She found herself on Regatha, where she ended up studying pyromancy at Keral Keep under Jaya Ballard, who went by "Mother Luti."

Chandra was tricked by Ramaz to steal the Dragon Scroll from the Sanctum of Stars on Kephalai. To retrieve it, they turned to the planeswalker Jace Beleren of the Infinite Consortium. He tracked Chandra back to Regatha, where they fought. He won and retrieved the scroll, but her monks had already replicated it.

Jaya, wanting Chandra gone and not understanding the implications of her mission, sent Chandra to retake the original scroll from Jace. This time, however, her attempt failed, and she destroyed the Sanctum of Stars. As she fled, she encountered Gideon Jura, who turned her over to the soldiers of Kephalai. They attempted to torture her to take the information as to the scroll's whereabouts, but she planeswalked away. However, because she didn't have enough time to focus on her destination, she ended up on Diraden, a plane with only black mana that was ruled by Prince Velrav, whose magic prevented her from planeswalking away.

Gideon ended up coming back to help Chandra leave the plane. The two journeyed together, and Gideon explained that the Dragon Scroll was from Zendikar. During their travels, they were captured by Velrav's agents, but they managed to escape, fight and kill Velrav, and return to Regatha.

They returned to find that the Order of Heliud (speculated to be associated with Heliod, God of the Sun), an organization that sought to bring rule of law to all places across several planes and had similar values to Chandra's familiar consulate, had taken over Regatha. Gideon revealed himself to be a member of the order. She fled to Keral Keep, though it too was quickly taken over. She turned herself in, expecting to be executed, but they instead decided to put her through the Purifying Fire.

The Purifying Fire strips those put through it of their magic (and of their planeswalker spark, if applicable), a fate Chandra considered worse than death. She asked Gideon to kill her, but he told her he knew a way to prevent that fate- she had to go in with no regrets. She told him of her childhood and how she blamed herself for everything that happened, including her father's death. That had been the first time she had told anyone, and after that her nightmares about those moments became less potent. The fire took nothing from her, and when she emerged, she destroyed all of the nearby Order forces.

Gideon reprimanded her for killing so many of the Order's members, but she told him she felt no remorse. She did decide to leave Regatha, though.

She went to Zendikar, the plane Gideon spoke of. She was looking for the Eye of Ugin. She found Anowon, the Ruin Sage, who promised to lead her to the eye, but then attempted to kill her in her sleep. She rebuffed his assault, though he kept pressing, trying to get the scroll. As her magic was giving out, she was saved by Sarkhan Vol, who ambushed Anowon, leaving him unconscious.

The two of them ventured further into the eye, and he explained its true meaning. However, when she found it was not what she expected and tried to leave, Vol turned on her, and she had no defense without her magic- and was immediately saved by Jace. He helped her cast a Ghostfire spell, which caused both Vol and Jace to fall unconscious. She was a bit annoyed at Jace for showing up too much, but woke him up rather than killing him, and he questioned the intentions of Ramaz, the one who had sent her after the scroll in the first place.

She eventually tracked Ramaz down, and after beating him in a fight, questioned him. He told her he had been following the words of a dragon, who had multiverse-wide schemes of which he and the scroll were only a tiny piece. This dragon would later turn out to be none other than Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, who wanted the Eldrazi to be released as part of one of his schemes. His hope was that a large number of planeswalkers would come to combat them, but as that did not happen, he did not interfere in the fight against them because he saw no point.

She returned to Keral Keep to continue studying pyromancy. However, immediately after becoming the new Abbot of Keral Keep, Gideon and Jace came to her to ask for help combatting the Eldrazi. She refused, but she had both the weight of her memory of Zendikar as it was, and her disgust at her manipulation at Bolas' hands, driving her to join them. She ended up coming just in time to witness the return of Kozilek, the Great Distortion.

She rescued Gideon and Jace, along with Nissa Revane, from card:Ob Nixilis, who had captured them and was torturing them. They managed to drive him off Zendikar, then joined to fight the Eldrazi. They realized they made a good team, and decided to form a more permanent group.

They each swore their oaths (in order: Oath of Gideon, Oath of Nissa, Oath of Jace, Oath of Chandra) to declare themselves members of the Gatewatch (named for Sea Gate, or Sea Gate Wreckage, as it now was). This was Chandra's first time making a commitment to join something greater than herself, so she felt a bit unsure, but stuck to her decision.

Chandra also begins to develop romantic interest in both Gideon and Nissa.

Together, they fought the two Eldrazi on Zendikar, with the victory ultimately coming from a joint effort by Nissa harnessing the power of the leylines and Chandra setting things on fire.

Later, they fought Emrakul, the Promised End on Innistrad alongside Liliana Vess and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, ultimately binding Emrakul to its moon. Liliana then took the Oath of Liliana.

After defeating the three Eldrazi, they went to Kaladesh, where Chandra was reunited with her mother Pia Nalaar and they met Ajani Goldmane. The Gatewatch aided the renegades in their battle against the consulate, and they attempted to take down Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, though he managed to escape with the Planar Bridge. The renegaes defeated the consulate, Ajani took the Oath of Ajani, and the other members of the gatewatch left to combat Nicol Bolas on Amonkhet.

On Amonkhet, Bolas had created an army of undead eternals that were exceptionally skilled warriors, which he used to decimate the plane's population. The Gatewatch attempted to fight him directly, but he easily defeated them in the Hour of Devastation. They fled to Dominaria, sans Jace who had his memories destroyed by the dragon, where Nissa revoked her oath and left the Gatewatch permanently to return to Zendikar. Devastated, Chandra left to search for Jaya, who she believed could train her to be powerful enough to make the Gatewatch win.

When she finally found Jaya and realized that she had been studying with her, under the name Mother Luti, for so many years, she was upset, and Jaya was frustrated with her for not paying attention to her lessons. But Jaya ended up agreeing to train Chandra while they accompanied Gideon and Liliana, along with the crew of the card:Weatherlight Reborn, in their battle against Demonlord Belzenlok. During their adventures, Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain gave Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir (Teferi Akosa) his planeswalker spark, and after the battle, he took his Oath of Teferi.

They then went to Ravnica for the War of the Spark, plus Jace and minus Liliana, whom Bolas had tricked into working for him. The Gatewatch ignited the Interplanar Beacon to summon an army of planeswalkers to fight Bolas, and they were ultimately successful when Liliana betrayed Bolas. In so doing, Liliana forfeited her own life, but Gideon took the fall for her, dying in her place. Chandra was devastated by his death, and initially wanted to get revenge against Liliana, but Jace talked her out of it. After the war, Kaya joined the Gatewatch through her Oath of Kaya.

Chandra felt distant and useless for her inability to prevent all of the death that Bolas had caused, and she tried to combat that by going around the multiverse to do whatever she could to help people. Though she was one of the greatest forces of good during that time, she was unable to stop herself from falling into a deep depression. She returned to Amonkhet to destroy Bolas' statues, which finally freed her.

She went to Ajani to ask for his advice, and per his suggestion, the two traveled to Kaladesh so she could talk to her mother Pia again. When they arrived, they found her being tortured by Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded. They helped her escape and chased Tibalt to Innistrad, where they fought him and ultimately defeated him.

She then teamed up with other Gatewatch members to help Arlinn Kord   protect Innistrad using the Moonsilver Key, which would restore the day-night cycle. They managed to find the key (after a large number of battles) in the possession of Sorin Markov. He refused to give it to them, but with the help of Sigarda, Champion of Light, they were able to take the key from him. Several fight scenes later, Olivia Voldaren took the key and put Innistrad into eternal night. The Gatewatch fought against her vampires (in the middle of her wedding) and ended up victorious. Teferi used the key to restore the natural day-night cycle to Innistrad.

Chandra was not initially part of the team that journeyed to New Phyrexia to destroy Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree. However, when she was informed that Nissa and Jace had fallen, she teamed up with Wrenn and Seven as a new strike team. They were quickly overwhelmed, but with the aid of Elspeth Tirel, they along with Koth of the Hammer were able to take down Realmbreaker. Chandra and Nissa had a long confrontation, and as Phyrexia fell, Chandra brought Nissa to Zhalfir where she was uncompleated.

When Zhalfir and New Phyrexia switched places in the multiverse, many planeswalkers lost their sparks, including Nissa. Chandra did not, but she chose to stay with Nissa because love. (insert barfing face emoji)

Chandra is apparently 5'6" tall and weighs 130lbs, though this information comes only from a non-canonical source.

Though she was said to be straight in Forsaken, WOTC has affirmed that she is pansexual. She has had romantic feelings for quite a large number of people; both men and women make this list.
