Enchantment (2)

Instant (1)

Artifact (1)

This is an updated version of my original coin flip deck now that the fantastic Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom and Okaun, Eye of Chaos have been released months ago. Now, with these two at the helm of the deck, coin flipping has never been more productive!

With my personal build, I saw a lot of minor themes that have come together and work well together. Coin flips, artifacts, Voltron, and combo!

In my original coin flip deck, I wanted to go all in on the coin flips, using most of the coin flip cards available. Knowing that those cards aren’t the best, I have really trimmed down on the coin flipping from cards other than the commanders (which provide a ton of flips, but to that later). I have cards like Stitch in Time for the possible 3-mana time walk, Planar Chaos to slow the game down and to see the expressions on people’s face when they flip coins and I benefit from it, Chance Encounter for a backup win-con, Boompile for a board clear that makes opponents react to a 50/50 chance to destroy their stuff, and of course Krark's Thumb for reasons.

I needed a sub-artifact theme because I really rely on the ramp my artifacts and get me since both my commanders are 5 mana and take a bit to get there. Having Zndrsplt out as early as possible really helps with hand quality and digging for more important cards. Making sure that I can keep my ramp and Krark's Thumb around. We are looking at Fabricate to usually grab the thumb, Buried Ruin to grab anything that gets a one-trip ticket to the graveyard, Mana Vault for that sweet ramp and extra coin flip activations, Trophy Mage to grab some ramp or some swords for Okaun (more on that later), and others. My main problem is when a Vandalblast is played late game and kills all of my ramp and I have already casted my commanders twice and find it hard to recast them if necessary.

Let’s talk about the Voltron package. Whenever most everyone saw Okaun, Eye of Chaos, they thought Voltron and they were right. I did not necessarily want to go all in on the Voltron package, because we are all about flipping coins here, but it still adds a nice spiciness to the deck. Commander damage is the name of the game here. With the coin flip we get at the beginning of combat every turn from Okaun, we can get him near to the lethal 21 power mark if we are lucky. It is not uncommon to have both Okaun and Zndrsplt on the field at the same time and that just helps our card draw and raw power so much. I really wanted to get my two favorite swords in this deck: Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Feast and Famine. These two swords on big boi Okaun give him pro everything besides white. So that means there is usually at least one person at the table he can swing at unprohibited and get those lands untapped, draw cards, and other perks. Whenever we do not have an opponent at the table we can get some free damage on, we have Whispersilk Cloak and Rogue's Passage just to make sure we can get in with our massive Okaun since we won about three coin flips this turn.

In the coin flip decks, we usually run the Frenetic Efreet in some janky way and here is no exception. We are trying to get the Laboratory Maniac win here, nice and clean. The plan here is getting Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom on the field along with Frenetic Efreet and Laboratory Maniac and just draw our entire deck. If we don’t have Laboratory Maniac out, we have Gamble or otherwise we can draw into him by just activating Frenetic Efreet a ton of times to dig for him. Understand that Zndrsplt is not a “may” for the card draw from winning a coin flip and we must draw all the cards, so be careful. We have backup card draw if Frenetic Efreet phases out or is buried like Gush or just by going to our combat step and winning at least one coin flip while Zndrsplt is on the field.

So there are the individual packages within the deck and I know it sounds all over the place, but it all kind of melds together and works pretty fluidly. I would always recommend casting Zndrsplt first to get some card draw going unless you have some equipment on the field early and someone does not have creatures, then I would go for Okaun and go for the kill next turn.

I hope you enjoyed my type-up here. Kind of the first time I have written about one of my decks that I built myself and I couldn’t help it. I haven’t played a different EDH deck besides this one in months. It’s just so much fun and wins more than I would expect it to! If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know! I’m constantly looking for ways to upgrade this deck.
