From Rakdos to Chainer —Dec. 26, 2019

The deck hasn't gone through too big of an overhaul, but it had been upgraded to a reanimator shell! I have decided to replace the previous commander of Rakdos, the Showstopper (who is fun, but unreliable), to Chainer, Nightmare Adept! this way, the Shadowborn Apostles can still be useful for pitching to Chainer amongst other fodder purposes! Here's a detailed list of the additions/subtractions:

Cinder Barrens -> Ash Barrens (kinda funny if you think about it)

Bloodfell Caves -> Myriad Landscape

Rakdos Guildgate -> Terramorphic Expanse

Never / Return -> Terminate

Rakdos's Return -> Rakdos Charm

Underworld Connections -> Faithless Looting

Mogis, God of Slaughter -> Malfegor

Mana Flare -> Cathartic Reunion

Mastermind's Acquisition -> Thrill of Possibility

Herald of Anguish -> Overseer of the Damned

Necropolis Fiend -> Doomed Necromancer

Promise of Power -> Beacon of Unrest

Ritual of Soot -> Archfiend of Spite

Languish -> Rakdos, the Showstopper

The deck is still incomplete as is, so please, if anyone has any suggestions (I am going to get cards like Buried Alive and Victimize very soon), let me know!

Hey, good start and nice budget Rakdos deck.

The flavor is neat with Rakdos as General, but overall this Rakdos is lackluster. Consider Chainer, Nightmare Adept as Commander General? Chainer is being displayed as $8, but it's a glitch. It's not that much, in fact it's less than $2 at TCGPlayer.

Chainer can be an enabler for reanimation by discarding Demons or can recast Apostles from your graveyard. With Chainer any Demon you cheat onto the battlefield with Apostles gets haste. Reanimation and cards that are enablers for reanimation is a good secondary strategy when playing lots of high mana cost Demons. Apostles are the first plan to cheat Demons onto the battlefield and traditional reanimation can be a backup plan to also cheat Demons on the battlefield.

Budget cards to consider adding:

If you like these suggestions I offer help to make cuts. I also offer more advice if you like. Good luck with your deck.

Hey multimedia, thanks for the suggestions! here are my thoughts:

I think Chainer, Nightmare Adept is a fun idea, but I am down for the reanimator plan! Additionally, I could switch the leader to Rakdos, Lord of Riots and add some pingers to help the deck in that manor (casting Archfiend of Despair for BB is fair, right?). so in total, going with a ping/reanimation plan could be a fun way to run the demon deck! and if I decide to cut the apostles, all these cards would fit in perfectly! however, what would I cut if I were to KEEP the apostles?

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Hey, I didn't suggest to cut the Apostles, keep the Apostles. they're good and the best parts of your deck :)

I suggested Chainer, Nightmare Adept as General because he gives you more interaction with Apostles as well as reanimation which is good backup plan with Demons. Casting Apostles for one mana from your graveyard and giving the Demon you cheat into play with Apostles haste are interactions that make Apostles better. With Chainer you can abuse creatures for reanimation of Demons such as Doomed Necromancer and Apprentice Necromancer . After discarding one of these Necromancers or a Demon, Chainer lets you cast one of these Necromancers from your graveyard and then because of haste you can use them right away to reanimate the Demon you just discarded and that Demon can attack with haste.

Rakdos, the Showstopper as General doesn't have interaction with Apostles other than they can tutor for and put Demons onto the battlefield, but they can already do this meaning Rakdos is not adding anything to help with the Apostle strategy. Showstopper is better as a Demon in the 99, not General, therefore Apostles can tutor for it. Rakdos, Lord of Riots is better than Showstopper and Riots is good with Demons, but not good with Apostles. You will want to change your deck quite a lot if using Riots as Commander.

Fair enough. Though if I were to cut cards for your suggestions, what would you cut/add? Also would Malfegor be a good addition, as we're trying to dump demons to the bin? (P.S. I don't really like Wake the Dead for this deck, looks like a fun card for an ETB deck tho!)

So, multimedia, I just got the madness commander deck today, and there are so many cards that I could add to the deck (such as Overseer of the Damned , Beacon of Unrest , Archfiend of Spite , and more)! Having this, I will soon be changing the deck from Rakdos' Crazy Demon Party to Chainer's Demon Summoning Possie! So, in your humble opinion, what should I cut/add?
