Krenko Commander!

This is probably the most tuned Krenko deck there can be currently. In 2013 i was gifted a Goblin Settler for my birthday. My friend strongly recommended i build an EDH deck for it, and I've been working on it ever since :)

My current strategy to win the game is

Plan A: Assemble Kiki-Jiki/Lightning Crafter combo. (This is a 3-card combo, it's our most efficient way of winning).

Plan B: Assemble infinite goblins, with haste, or a damage outlet. (This is a 6+ card combo)

Plan C: Chip away at life totals when you can.

Who should play this deck:

  • You like exploding over 1-2 turns.
  • You like turning red guys sideways.
  • You don't mind being singled out.
  • Seriously, we're eating the entire table worth of paths, swords, and spot removal.
  • You can find ways to snatch a victory.

Who shouldn't play this deck:

  • You like interaction in your games. It's no secret red decks lack interaction.

Overview of combos

Use Goblin Matron or Imperial Recruiter to find Goblin Recruiter. Use Recruiter make packages to win. Your package can change if you have an extra turn spell, so pick accordingly. A simple package would be:

  1. Goblin Ringleader
  2. Kiki-Jiki Mirror Breaker
  3. Lightning Crafter
  4. Goblin Chirurgeon
  5. Dockside Extortionist

Kiki-Jiki needs to be on the battlefield, untapped for this combo to work, with a sacrifice outlet. Cast Lightning Crafter. If it enters the battlefield, champion trigger will go on the stack. In response, copy it with Kiki. The token will enter the battlefield, and trigger champion. Champion the Kiki. Activate to Lightning Bolt a target. Sacrifice the token. Kiki will reenter the battlefield untapped. Repeat.

If you want to make infinite goblins, you'll need to know this bit of math, 7+(2*n)=x where n is the number of times you've cast Krenko. The cards needed for this is:

  • Krenko, Mob Boss
  • Phyrexian Altar/Skirk Prospector (sacrificing to add R is important to recast Krenko)
  • Haste enabler (Ashling's Prerogative, Goblin Chieftain, Goblin Warchief, Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves)

Krenko will need to be your 7th (or more) goblin cast. Cast Krenko, activate, make at least n (7+(2n)) goblins. Sacrifice Krenko for R, and enough goblins to recast him. If you did your math right, you should come out +1 goblin following another Krenko activation.

With infinite tokens, we win a few ways.

  1. Dark-Dweller Oracle. You draw your deck and win at your leisure.
  2. Goblin Sharp Shooter/Goblin Bombardment. Using the sac outlet and haste you ping for 1 damage at instant speed.
  3. Combat damage i guess.

If you expect to run into counterspells, be sure to use Recruiter to further stack your deck to fight interaction. Unfortunately, we don't have goblins that make a board presence that help us, so just make it so your following turns you can continue to apply pressure.

Updates Add

While Flash is in the meta, it's not really worth pursuing pushing this deck. The power level is now so high it's impossible to keep up.
