Can You Paint With All the Colors of the Wind?

Commander / EDH Combo Control Jank WUB (Esper)

T0425

Maybeboard

Yo isn’t it crazy how in Dromar’s Charm that Dromar has hands but there are no hands to be found on Dromar’s actual art? Whack. Anyway, about the deck:

This is probably my 1,000th attempt at Dromar Color Control! It has been a long and challenging process. The main idea is to use Painter’s Servant, Shifting Sky, or Darkest Hour to make all creatures a common color to control the board. I also have spot color changing that can be used offensively on my opponent’s creatures or defensively to protect Dromar from his own ability and enemy spells. I definitely had a hard time balancing between card advantage and control with the color theme, so any advice is appreciated.

How the deck works:

This is a janky deck with a wheel shell along side some nice staples to hold it together. In short we aim to control the board with Dromar and our color shifting cards to keep enemy creatures off the boards and in our opponents’ hand. Once there we can wheel them away and restock our hand in the process. In addition we can use Notion Thief or Narset to block our opponents from restocking off of our wheel and locking their hand(s) down.

How we win:

  1. Dromar on the Beat(stick): Our commander comes in with a 6/6 body and evasion. Combining that with his ability and Sword of War & Peace can lead to some heavy life swings in our favor. I’m playing with the idea of adding another sword. Maybe when the R/G one is finally printed. Sphinx of the Steel wind can be used in the same manner. I like that it has protection from both of the colors the deck isn’t, and it can help keep us in the game.

  2. Psychosis Crawler + Wheels: An oldie but goodie!

  3. Painter’s Servant + Psychic Allergy: With this combo you pick a color with Allergy, obviously the same one you picked with Painter’s Servant. The Servant makes everything, including lands in play, the color of your choice. This will allow you to deal 1 damage to your opponent for each permanent they have!

  4. Painter’s Servant + Teferi’s Protection + Wash Out/Shifting Sky: Another weird one. You need 8-9 mana card to put this one together. First you tap all of your available mana, casting Teferi’s Protection, which phases out everything you have. Using the floating mana cast Painter’s Servant or Shifting Sky, choosing any green. Finally, use the remaining mana to cast Wash Out, naming the same color we used for the Servant. This will return ALL permanents or nonland permanents our opponents control to hand, entirely resetting them while all of our phased permanents return during our next round.

  5. Dromar/Wheels + Price of Knowledge: Price of Knowledge has been a pet card of mine that I finally get to try. Use Dromar’s effect or another bounce card to keep our opponents’ resources in their hand. Price of Knowledge will trigger during their upkeep, dealing damage for each card in their hand! Another fun but mana intensive way to hit each enemy for damage consistently.

Other fun Combos:

Painter’s Servant + Douse/Insight

Earnest Fellowship + Scuttlemutt/Blind Seer
