"Today we are cancelling the apocalypse!"

-Stacker Pentecost

Good day to you all! My favorite movie of all time, hands down, is Pacific Rim. I've watched it 23 times in my short life and every time it gets better and better. In October 2019, I was searching for a new deck to make my own. Ideas come to me randomly and one day, while I was sitting in creative writing, I was struck. Golem Reanimator. I love weird tribes, as is apparent, and I didn't have a super dedicated reanimator deck other than Lich tribal at the time. I got to work immediately, brewing up a Rona, Disciple of Gix deck that cost only $28. It was budget, fun, and weird as hell. Then I forgot about it because, well, school is hard and time-consuming. Early December came around and I was still without a new deck. I was cleaning out my bag and found the list for golm reanimator. It was, admittedly, not great, and I spent the rest of the day refining and reforging it into what it is today. So, with happy heart, and giant robots, I present

Pacific Rim | Budget Golem Reanimator

Golems are big, that's the main draw of reanimating them, and when we add tribal buffs, it forms a very cohesive package. What I've created is a Reanimator Shell with Golem Tribal in the center. Our tribal boosts include Wing Splicer, Brass Herald, and Precursor Golem. These cards allow our huge golems to get through. In terms of big robots, we've got a bevy of options at our disposal. Colossus of Akros, Colossus of Sardia, Phyrexian Colossus, Ancient Stone Idol, Guardian of the Ages, Mage-Ring Defender, and Pilgrim of the Fires. Beaters like these close the game out FAST and even when your opponents answer them, they come back for more. A lot of the golems above don't untap either, and so Voltaic Construct and Voltaic Servant cover us, and so does Manafold Key.

Geode Golem, Darksteel Sentinel, Epitaph Golem, Golden Guardian  , Golem Artisan, Howling Golem, and Meteor Golem provide additional value with removal, ramp, tokens, buffs, and card draw. Our golem package is pretty diverse, and after a while with the deck, I've found that it's capable of dealing with most strategies pretty well.

Our reanimator package is VERY budget, running 4-5 mana reanimation spells and the like. Among them are Apprentice Necromancer, Body Double, Doomed Necromancer, Whisper, Blood Liturgist, Beacon of Unrest, Blood for Bones, Bond of Revival, Command the Dreadhorde, Connive / Concoct, Endless Obedience, Extract from Darkness, Necromantic Summons, Zombify, Betrayal of Flesh, Liliana, Death's Majesty, and Diabolic Servitude. While these probably aren't the best reanimator spells, they work for our purposes and the extra little benefits they have like haste or self mill make them worth the cost.

Our self-mill package is the second part of the reanimator shell. Cards like Corpse Connoisseur, Deranged Assistant, Junk Golem, Millikin, Olivia's Dragoon, Syr Konrad, the Grim, Wonder, Buried Alive, Contingency Plan, Final Parting, Flux, Notion Rain, Taigam's Scheming, Whispering Madness, Fact or Fiction, Forbidden Alchemy, Frantic Search, Tolarian Winds, Nephalia Drownyard, Perpetual Timepiece, and Zombie Infestation. These cards provide huge amounts of value by milling our library and producing additional card advantage. Our commander, Taigam, Sidisi's Hand, mills our cards too and ensures we keep reanimator spells in hand.

Finally, I've slipped a small subtheme into the deck in the form of targeting spells. Precursor Golem allows a spell that would target a golem to target all golems. So, I've put Rush of Vitality and Stealth Mission to combo with that. The biggest win condition in this deck is Masterful Replication. Making every artifact into a copy of Ancient Stone Idol and swinging for the win is a very real thing. Due to the high amount of card filtering and draw, you can usually find Masterful Replication quickly.

I'd like to thank you for taking an interest in my deck and reading my primer! Remember, those Kaiju don't stand a chance!
