My buddies and I decided to try to build an EDH deck on a budget. Not including basic lands, the entire deck needs to cost less than $50. At the time of writing, the deck costs about $48.

I was considering originally trying to do something fancy with budget combos in multi-colored, but the others were talking about doing mono-colored decks, so I decided to take a look at some mono-green on EDHREC and stumbled across Bounteous Kirin in my search. I first started playing back when the Kamigawa block had just come out and the GW Spirits pre-con from Champions of Kamigawa was the first deck I ever purchased. Since then, Bounteous Kirin has always held a special place in my heart and, as such, I decided to run it as my commander for this budget deck and do a bit of a throwback to my earliest days of playing magic.

With the Kirin at the head, the deck is focused around lifegain and a little bit of the Soulshift mechanic to bring your spirits back to hand so they can jump back into the fray. Alongside them, you have a few good beatdown cards like God-Eternal Rhonas.

The ideal win-con, besides straight up throwing spirits into your opponent's face and going wider than they can, is to have a Shinen of Life's Roar in hand, Channel it onto a spirit with Soulshift, and then use the Soulshift to put the Shinen back into your hand so you can mutilate your next opponent.

Hope you guys enjoy!
