Maybeboard

Welcome to all Commander players new and old!

My playgroup has recently expanded with several new players, and we found ourselves in need of a few decks that would offer these new recruits a fun way to start learning both the EDH format and Magic in general. To that end, I decided to put together something I thought would be simple to grasp, fun to play, and decently viable at my group's $100-budget table - a classic monogreen stompy list that can hopefully give any new Timmy a great introduction to Commander!

Ultimately, this deck is looking for the most basic win condition you can chase in EDH - survive until you can generate an enormous ball of creatures to slam into your opponent's dwindling life totals and end the game. Selvala was chosen as our commander for a few reasons - her single color and innate abilities to ramp us and draw us cards will lead to new players having dramatically fewer "dead games" than they would with many other commanders, and her potential to draw our opponents cards will likely leave her pilot as a lower-priority threat to the rest of the board, letting our beginner player learn the ropes while working towards an end game with plenty of 8+ drop monsters to give them a fighting chance at victory!

Our creatures are primarily value plays that strengthen our board states through their effects - making our entire board stronger, more evasive, and more resilient. Many also help us draw cards, which is a major concern of any ramp deck - we always want something to do with our huge pools of mana, and sputtering out to drop late-game 2 and 3 drops when we have double-digit floating mana every turn is never where we want to be. The rest of our creatures - and most of our non-creature spells - serve as disruption to our opponents plans, letting us snipe troublesome permanents and combo pieces when necessary, but not to the point where it should turn the board's ire en-masse towards us. Our last chunk of effects are those meant to synergize with our commander - our 1-drop elves want to help us bring Selvala in on turn 2, and we have several scattered effects that let us untap her to generate an enormous quantity of mana.

This deck is hot off the presses, and with such a simple strategy, I'm sure there are a ton of low-cost-high-impact cards out there I completely missed in my building process. All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

(And before anyone asks, Sol Ring is banned in my playgroup, hence its exclusion from this list. Obviously include it if you can!)
