Ok so I'm on the Atla Palani bandwagon now. I bought the Primal Genesis deck a year back and tweaked it and upgraded it and could never really get it to work. I had also dabbled with Grenzo, whom a lot of people like for chaos creature-cheat but I could also never really get that to work.

Then I realized, Primal Genesis came with Atla Palani! I added every egg and suitable changeling I could find, a number of ridiculous enormo-beasts and boom. This deck is FUN to play and puts up a good fight (though certainly not invincible).

I also did not want it to be just dinosaur tribal as is popular, or too heavy on overpowered Eldrazi, etc - but really a mix of giant creatures with cool effects. A few have cycling (so if you end up with them in your hand, you can just ditch them), and a few cards recycle your graveyard into your library. There are a number of sac outlets to kill off your own eggs and some ways to duplicate the effect as well.

The primary mechanics are based on the categories the cards are grouped into above. Note that some cards are in multiple groups, so it looks like more than 100 cards, but the deck is legal at 100 cards.

  • Mana and Ramp

This is an obvious category. The cards here are all lands, mana rocks/dorks, or support getting more mana into play. Since we don't need a ton of mana to cast creatures (ideally, anyway) this is on the low side. There are some mechanics to discard cards or cycle creatures (and reset the graveyard later) as well as creatures with the new "prototype" mechanic allowing a lower cost casting if needed. We want some ramp to get going quickly, but don't need to be overloaded with mana, either.
  • Egg Things

These are all cards that generate or function as eggs. Changelings are all creature types, so they count. Two of the creatures that also fit into this category are Trostani, Selesnya's Voice as she can populate, and Nesting Dragon as it can make eggs with its landfall trigger. The bottom line is, we don't want to solely rely on Atla Palani to make eggs, so these provide additional sac fodder.
  • Egg Mother Support

As our primary generator of eggs, and the trigger that allows us to hatch big beastly things from our eggs, we must support Atla Palani. These cards boost or protect the commander, or allow us to get extra activations out of her abilities.
  • Sac Outlets

We need a way to kill off our eggs if our opponents won't do it for us by attacking. A few alternatives exist to kill our creatures (such as directing damage from Magmatic Force or Living Inferno against our eggs, but primarily we want to rely on sacrifice to move things along. Skullclamp is included here because it can be used to attach to (and instantly kill) eggs, at a bonus of 2 card draws.
  • Beastly Things (to Hatch from Eggs)

These are all creatures with insanely high casting costs, power/toughness, and sick abilities. Since we're not planning on actually casting them, the mana curve for this deck isn't as horrible as it looks! One creature is more ridiculous than the next. This was perhaps the hardest section to assemble as there are so many great options. Like I mentioned earlier I didn't want to go too tribal and only have dinosaurs or eldrazi, this is a really varied mix. A random favorite is a 4/4 with Trample that's also an egg: Game-Trail Changeling.
  • Library and Hand Management

This includes anything that provides the ability to get some cards from our hand or graveyard back into the library. Say we have Krosan Tusker in our opening hand, well we will have the mana to cycle him faster than to cast him and eventually can use one of several graveyard reshufflers (like Feldon's Cane to get him back in the egg line-up aka library. Or to directly get him back in the Library with a card like Credit Voucher from our hand.
  • Removal

This is what it says - just cards that clean up until the deck gets going. Once the big beasts are out, it will be our opponents that need removal spells. And, in a pinch, Abrade or Arc Lightning can be use on your own eggs to kill them off, should the sac outlets fail.
