Lifegain does not generally do terribly well in Commander. Gaining even a decent amount of life won't stop somebody's combo from killing you, and Overrun-type tactics often end in damage approaching three figures. Ayli, however, is capable of generating truly massive amounts of life, and there are more than a few ways to use that otherwise innocuous effect to kill everyone on the table. So much so, that Ayli's permanent-exiling ability is a mere handy afterthought.
