Ayli, Cleric Tribal (Super Budget)

Commander / EDH Budget Multiplayer Tribal WB (Orzhov)

LemonCurry

Here's another deck I built for under 30.00 USD. The deck is geared for multiplayer and is not competitive but hopefully it's fun to play!

Deck tech:

  • The infinite life combo: Daru Spiritualist + Shuko + Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim /Disciple of Griselbrand/ Starlit Sanctum . Not only does this make it very unlikely for us to die from loss of life for the rest of the game, it turns on Ayli's second activated ability indefinitely!

  • There's a cool combo with Fiend Hunter and Ayli. With the hunter's ETB trigger on the stack, you can retain priority and sacrifice the hunter to Ayli, putting his leave-the-battlefield triggered ability on the stack, which will resolve first and do nothing. When his ETB triggered ability resolves, it will indefinitely remove the targeted creature. Of course this also works with the other sacrifice outlets in the deck too.

  • We are going to have a lot of life to play around with, so we have a bunch of tech for that: Phyrexian Reclamation to get more value out of our sacrifice fodder, Greed and Dark Tutelage to draw us some cards, etc.

  • There are going to be turns when we gain greater than five life, so Angelic Accord is in here to give us a stronger creature base in the form of 4/4 flyers. Actually, you can use the angel token as sacrifice fodder itself, to gain 4 life on every turn!

  • Since we're going to be sacrificing a lot of creatures, we have Dark Prophecy to give us some more card draw and the new Hidden Stockpile to provide us with some filtering and more fodder.

  • Battletide Alchemist is an absolute all-star. Even if the Alchemist is the only cleric in play, she can completely prevent damage that is done in spurts of 1 at a time, shutting off ping-ers and 1/1 tokens.

  • Planar Guide can save us from a deadly attack, or from a board wipe that isn't in our favour.

  • No Rest for the Wicked is both insurance against board wipes and can also lend itself to a lot of value with Ayli. We can sacrifice our board for some sort of explosive play, then get all our creatures back!

  • Given the high concentration of low-costed creatures in the deck, Hanweir Militia Captain   can transform very easily, and once transformed can make a bunch of 1/1 Human Cleric tokens to fuel Ayli's sacrificial needs. The cleric surplus also adds to the effectiveness of cards like Vile Deacon , Doubtless One , Stoneforge Masterwork, and Pontiff of Blight.

  • Banisher Priest, Fiend Hunter and War Priest of Thune fill our removal needs, but there is also Utter End, Mortify and Death Grasp in the deck.

  • Starlit Sanctum + Stoneforge Masterwork can put some large dents in some enemy life totals.

  • Scion of Darkness can be sent out early thanks to Dark Supplicant . If we ever draw the scion, we can cycle it and just get it back later with the supplicant.

  • Bygone Bishop is a recently printed cleric that can generate some card advantage.

  • There is mana ramp in the form of Journeyer's Kite and a few budget mana rocks. Edgewalker gives us a nifty little discount on our cleric spells, so that helps out in the mana department too.

  • The deck wins pretty slowly, and it is definitely built for multiplayer. A lot of our offensive spells revolve around incremental life draining, such as Scholar of Athreos , Cabal Archon, and Suture Priest.

  • If and when we decide to go on the offensive, Frontline Medic is here to give our creatures an easier time.

There is definitely room for improvement. Some of the best clerics were left out of the deck due to budget restraints.
