This deck is my attempt to create a version of Atraxa that's fun for my reasonably-casual playgroup. I don't want to play infect, because I'm not a tryhard Spike, superfriends is overdone and clunky imo, and pure +1/+1 counters is already represented in my group, though not by Atraxa. So I wanted to go for something a little goofy and fun, and this is what I came up with. Misc. counters Atraxa!

Since I'm not very experienced building EDH decks, I'd like advice on my proportions of payoffs/enablers/mana/protection, since I feel like it may be off. Suggestions for more payoffs or synergistic protections would also be pretty cool! Here's what we got right now:

Mana generation Show

For lands, we have the storage lands (Calciform Pools, Dreadship Reef, Mage-Ring Network, and Saltcrusted Steppe), the vivid lands (Vivid Grove, Vivid Meadow, Vivid Creek, and Vivid Marsh), and the depletion lands (Remote Farm, Saprazzan Skerry, Hickory Woodlot, and Peat Bog). These work really well with proliferate, although the depletion lands are very risky. We also have generally decent lands because I can't afford the actually good ones. Indatha Triome and Verdant Catacombs are only there because I already own them. We also have a few mana-fixers since a good chunk of our mana generation is mono-color or colorless. The fetch lands will pair nicely with Evolution Sage as well as do some mana-fixing of their own.

For non-lands, we have 14 cards. Gyre Sage, Black Market, Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner (since a lot of our stuff untaps for more than one mana), Arcane Signet, Astral Cornucopia, Chromatic Lantern, Component Pouch, Empowered Autogenerator, Everflowing Chalice, Pyramid of the Pantheon, Replicating Ring, Sphere of the Suns, The Celestus, Teferi, Temporal Archmage (I mostly plan on using his -1 until I have more mana than I know what to do with), and The Great Henge. Most of these pair pretty obviously with proliferate except for some just generally good cards like Signet or Lantern or Celestus. Henge is here to give our creatures counters that we can proliferate and draw cards and gain life and do literally everything like it always does.

Proliferation enablers Show

In addition to our Commander, we have plenty of ways of proliferating. I don't expect Atraxa to be out terribly much since she'll attract attention. Hence why I've loaded up this stack. Most of our things could always use some proliferation anyway. Here are our enablers: Evolution Sage, Flux Channeler, Vorel of the Hull Clade, Winding Constrictor (kind of), Inexorable Tide, and Contagion Engine.

We also have one-time proliferate spells like Contentious Plan, Fuel for the Cause, Deepglow Skate, Planewide Celebration, Smell Fear, and Tezzeret's Gambit.

Proliferation value Show

I think it will be essential for this deck to never run out of fuel. If we do, we're sunk. So, for general value purposes, we have these cards: Forgotten Ancient, Myojin of Cleansing Fire, Myojin of Life's Web, Myojin of Seeing Winds, Myojin of Night's Reach, Soul Diviner, Volrath, the Shapestealer (for flexibility and slow removal), Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, As Foretold, Luminarch Ascension, Mind Unbound, Ominous Seas, Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, Magistrate's Scepter, The Magic Mirror, and Titan Forge. The Myojins are exactly what I was looking for when I made the deck. They're unknown, they're not frequently used, and they absolutely abuse being proliferated, but in a wacky way. Servant of the Scale is here just so that I have something to get with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard on his first trigger. After that, we'll use him to get increasingly-large creatures out. Night Dealings can get basically anything we want after a bit, at the cost of four mana. And of course, Tamiyo, Field Researcher can give us cards and, after 1-2 turns, an unkillable Omniscience.

Removal Show

Surprisingly, there's a lot of removal that works well with proliferation. Myojin of Cleansing Fire can repeatedly wipe the board, Volrath, the Shapestealer can slowly, with proliferation, take care of some creatures, Heliod's Punishment is likely to lock away a creature until someone removes it, Legacy's Allure and Simic Manipulator for obvious reasons, Parallax Wave treads water with just Atraxa and 4 creatures exiled, then any extra proliferation we can do to it means more creatures we can exile! Out of Time is likely to never leave unless removed, and can lock down even commanders permanently. It's also really hard to avoid, as my Feather deck found out. Austere Command is just a flexible wipe. Unfortunately, whatever we choose will likely hurt us too, since we have a spread of threats, but it also means that choosing any one option won't end our game.

Protection Show

I struggled for a while thinking about what protection to put in this deck. Semester's End was an obvious pick, but then what? I decided on a combination of recursion and countermagic, as well as a few other misc pieces. We have Planewide Celebration and Unburial Rites for recursion, Swiftfoot Boots to protect certain creatures (mainly our commander), Cauldron of Souls is useful, and maybe more than once with +1/+1 counters removing -1/-1 counters and our deck giving out occaisonal +1/+1s, and for the counterspell package we have Dovin's Veto, Negate, Wash Away, and Fuel for the Cause. I'm fine with just noncreature counterspells because I mostly want to be using these to protect my board and to possibly counter a few immediate-win spells in my playgroup that are all noncreatures.

But how do we win? Show

Answer: mostly through the big creatures we make. Things like Titan Forge, Ominous Seas, and our Myojins are pretty beefy and the Myojins, in particular, are difficult to deal with. This combined with the incidentally big creatures we make from proliferating a billion times means that we should have a decent shot at valuing/controlling our way into a board where we have the biggest threats. But, as a backup, we always have Simic Ascendancy. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries is also here because I've found in testing that this deck's draw engines can get out of hand and can't be stopped. So Jace is here as an alternate win condition, protection from decking, and I picked Jace over Thassa's or Lab Man because Jace can still do something even if he doesn't win us the game.

I love where I ended up with this deck, but it may be a little clunky. Anyone who can suggest things to smooth it out or just any fun cards that benefit from being proliferated will be appreciated! Keep in mind that I am a poor college student, so any card over about $5 requires consideration. All of the $15+ cards in here, besides Atraxa herself, I already own or can trade for in my playgroup.
