Are Frogs even real? Let's find out!

Welcome to my stupid deck!

I have always liked Frog cards in Magic and always disliked playing Simic because it is always too powerful for nothing and becomes boring really rapidly (at least for me, don't feel attacked folks). So in the end, I've decided to create a deck around Frogs cards in Simic so that way I could finally enjoy playing with that guild colors!

Now that I had a theme I needed to find a Commander... which isn't easy, because there is no Frog commander in Simic (sorry Yargle). So I've stopped looking for it and thinking about this deck until Modern Horizon 2 previews were in motion. Then, Lonis, Cryptozoologist was previewed. When I first saw it I thought: "Nice! I love Clues, they were so much underappreciated and still need a lot of love and support from Wizard of the Coast", but then I thought: "Hey...what if I make Lonis, Cryptozoologist my commander for my Frog deck... he could be a detective investigating (pun intended) if Frogs are even real. Could such an awesome crypto creature really exist? It is the job of a Cryptozoologist to find out!"

And that's basically how that deck was built out.

But I know why you are here, you want to know what is in the deck and how to play it out.

Well... this isn't a fancy powerful deck at all and it is actually quite Janky, but it can sometimes get a win from nowhere.

The strategy is pretty simple:

For this strategy to work you will need to cast your Commander. So just generate and cast it!

Now that Lonis is out, cast your creatures.

You have a bunch of them and each of them will create you a Clue when it hit the battlefield and that your commander is out (remember step A).

You also have two combos in the deck that can allow you to generate INFINITE CLUES!!!!!!!

Set-up:

To be able to do this combo you will need:

Steps to combo:

This Loop will give you INFINITE CLUES AND FOOD!!!

Set-up:

To be able to do this combo you will need :

Steps to combo:

This Loop will give you INFINITE CLUES AND LANDFALL TRIGGERS!!!

And to answer your question: Yes you can activate Quirion Ranger ability more than once each turn since each time you cast it, it is a new instance of the card that has no recollection of the previous ones.

If you can't combo, that is no big deal. Just cast creatures until you have a critical mass of Clues :)

You also have some creatures that bounce themselves or return other creatures to your hand so you can always recast a bunch of creatures.

And if you are a bit screwed in your draw, you can always crack your Clues for value.

What the damn hell!!! I thought this was a FROG DECK, NOT A CLUE DECK!?

Hey, oh, calm down buddy.

I never said this deck was a Frog Tribal deck, just that it was a Frog investigation deck.

But yes the deck has a bunch of ridiculous Frogs in it don't worry about it.

But what do to with them you ask?

Well, why not exchange them with your friends so they can contemplate how awesome and incredible they are.

Or why not transform their own creatures into Frogs? They were laughing at you when you played your Frogs, look who's laughing now!!!

Ok, but you said you could win with this deck and for now all I know is that there is a bunch of Frogs and Frog effects in the deck and that you can create clues. What's next?

Oh, good question my dear Watson.

Now. You. Win.

  • Either you steal their stuff with Lonis, Cryptozoologist ability.

  • Or you use those Clues and bash their heads wide open with them... that will give them a clue of how powerful Frogs are! You can do this with the help of one of those two finishers: Rampage of the Clans or Rise and Shine they will never see it coming... well at least the first time. But if your friends are stupid you might get away with this... each time ;)
