Animar, Soul of Elements is a commander that makes creatures cheaper the more you play. While it may not seem like it at first, this synergizes greatly with hydra cards (or any creature) that have X in their cost because Animar makes X cheaper. This works because when you cast a spell with X you choose what X is before casting it, then you spend the mana to cast it. Because of animar we can set X to higher numbers and animar's ability will still reduce the amount of mana we have to pay for x. With that out of the way here is how the deck works.

Early ramp/ color fixing is important because animar has such a specific casting cost and because we are using lot of mana to cast hydras. Mana dorks such as Elvish Mystic , Birds of Paradise , Beastcaller Savant help to fix and ramp us while also having the ability to put a counter of animar if we get them a little later. although not quite a mana dork Selvala, Heart of the Wilds can create a ton of mana and card draw that easily can lock away games. It may take a bit but this deck can also generate a ton of card draw with one time effects like Return of the Wildspeaker , Rishkar's Expertise , or Hydroid Krasis . more repeatable/long term draw is provided in Primal Empathy , Temur Ascendancy , Prime Speaker Zegana , and Beast Whisperer . This deck has a lot of good cards woth powerful synergys so here is a quick run down of the best things in the deck. Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider ends games and can give way to huge hydras. Same with Branching Evolution Unbound Flourishing has similar results. Hardened Scales is much less powerful but can put many counters on animar. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is a create cards that can create all the mana we need to drop some huge hydras as well as draw cards. Simic Ascendancy is a mini "fake" wincon that can draw attention away from more important targets. Triumph of the Hordes usualy kills and Overwhelming Stampede is not as good but still provides a substantial buff. finally Herald of Secret Streams makes all our creatures unlockable and will usually win on the spot. an honorable mention is Myr Scrapling who puts two counters on animar (one from cast trigger and one from sac effect) and it can be cast for free if animar already has counters.
