"What is this? Your kaiju deck?!"

This is my kaiju deck. It's my attempt at 75% midrange deck helmed by Animar.

What's good? Playing Eldrazi. What's better than that? Playing them for free. It's a challenge to pilot this deck because of its dependence on a large number of tutor effects, but it's incredibly flexible as a result.

Morph Package

The morph cards serve two purposes. First, and most importantly, they are a hedge against Torpor Orb type effects. Secondly, they can be cast for free once Animar has three counters and continue to add counters for no additional mana cost.

• Ainok Survivalist - standard Naturalize effect
• Den Protector - standard Regrowth effect, and the static ability can be awesome in conjunction with Pathbreaker Ibex
• Dwarven Blastminer - standard LD effect
• Jeering Instigator - one of the fakeout members of the package - marginally useful to me, but almost always a waste for removal
• Kheru Spellsnatcher - awesome effect, kind of expensive but when it hits, it's amazing
• Rattleclaw Mystic - cool mana dork
• Stratus Dancer - protection from most removal spells, including ones with Split Second
• Vesuvan Shapeshifter - my favorite of all the Clone iterations
• Voidmage Apprentice - Counterspell on a stick
• Willbender - the card that’s under every morph ever
• Zoetic Cavern - my favorite of the fakeout trio in that it’s very satisfying to turn face up in response to creature removal

Eldrazi Package

These are my primary beatsticks and each is a threat in its own right beyond just to opposing life totals.

• Artisan of Kozilek - reanimation as a cast trigger is excellent enough on its own, but adding a 10/9 body and Annihilator 2 makes it an auto-include
• Bane of Bala Ged - it has a better version of annihilator
• Conduit of Ruin - tutors up every other Eldrazi except one and has an additional cost reduction
• Oblivion Sower - marginal, but thoroughly demoralizing when paired with Raven Guild Master or Ulamog; likely to be replaced by It That Betrays
• Void Winnower - locks down token decks from chumping and keeps a number of common board wipes from being cast
• World Breaker - excellent spot removal with built-in recursion
• Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger - two for one just for casting it; its other triggered ability is bad news for most EDH decks

Tutor/Search Package

Get what you need when you need it. Simple as that.

• Conduit of Ruin - search out the Eldrazi (or even Blightsteel Colossus if you're into that kind of thing)
• Fierce Empath - gets any and all of the fatties in this deck; there's a fair amount of toolboxiness available in 6CMC+ in this deck
• Brutalizer Exarch - Worldly Tutor #2 or some useful removal; good for hitting opposing Planeswalkers
• Fauna Shaman - Survival of the Fittest #2; not much else to say
• Survival of the Fittest - the gold standard in repeatable creature tutoring
• Green Sun's Zenith - this usually goes for Fauna Shaman or Fierce Empath ; not so great on its own, but it's an excellent first link in a tutor chain
• Worldly Tutor - the gold standard in one-shot creature tutoring
• Genesis Hydra - this is a pet card of mine; it's really fun when X > 15
• Evolutionary Leap - this is mostly a hedge against removal, but it can also turn one shot ETB critters into others

Toolbox

A wealth of power at your fingertips!

• Acidic Slime - versatile removal that can deal with most permanent types and will most often trade two-for-one
• Beast Whisperer - card draw
• Caustic Caterpillar - have I mentioned that I don't like Torpor Orb yet?
• Draining Whelk - a counterspell on a stick that often costs a mere UU with Animar on the board and will yield a good size flyer, too
• Eternal Witness - Regrowth you can tutor for
• Glen Elendra Archmage - two-for-one counterspell effect that's also a flying chump blocker
• Greenwarden of Murasa - Regrowth you can tutor for
• Man-o'-War - Creature bounce, most often used on your own creatures
• Mulldrifter - card draw that ratchet up Animar for one on the cheap in the early game
• Mystic Snake - the original counterspell on a stick
• Ogre Battledriver - haste enabler that makes things bigger; amazing in conjunction with Pathbreaker Ibex
• Orcish Settlers - LD on the cheap
• Peregrine Drake - generate all the mana on a flying body
• Phyrexian Ingester - exiling creature removal that also becomes a big body
• Prime Speaker Zegana - card draw that's great for refilling your hand late game; I routinely get a full hand from her
• Raven Familiar - cheap card selection stapled to a flying chump blocker
• Reclamation Sage - Naturalize effect
• Shrieking Drake - this basically says ": Add a +1/+1 counter to Animar"
• Skullwinder - Regrowth with a political angle that also trades for creatures
• Soul of the Harvest - even more card draw
• Sylvan Safekeeper - protect Animar and company from point removal
• Temur Sabertooth - recycles your ETBs and face-up morphs in addition to generating arbitrarily large amounts of mana with Peregrine Drake
• Terastodon - DESTROY ALL THE THINGS!
• Trygon Predator - you can't have enough Naturalize effects, dammit!

NB: As previously mentioned, there's a toolbox within a toolbox at 6+ CMC with Prime Speaker Zegana and Soul of the Harvest for draw, Greenwarden of Murasa for recursion, Terastodon for general purpose removal, and Phyrexian Ingester for creature removal. This is in addition to all of the effects on the Eldrazi previously mentioned. This gives Fierce Empath serious legs as a tutor in this deck.

Ramp

This is a pretty light ramp package, all things considered, but Animar keeps costs down.

• Beastcaller Savant - excellent color fixing for creatures
• Birds of Paradise - gold standard for mana dorks
• Blighted Woodland - it's an Explosive Vegetation that can't be copied or countered.
• Gyre Sage - A consistent Evolve trigger makes this a consistent source of lots of mana and a beater in a pinch
• Llanowar Elves - the silver standard for mana dorks
• Rattleclaw Mystic - more color fixing
• Sakura-Tribe Elder - ramp through more lands
• Solemn Simulacrum - ramp through more lands, but for free most of the time
• Sylvan Ranger - guarantee a land drop

Win Conditions

They're not always needed, but sometimes you just need a little bit of gas to get you over the top.

• Pathbreaker Ibex - this plus any of the Eldrazi and a few of your utility critters should be more than enough to get you swinging for lethal damage.
• Legion Loyalist - the downside to most of the big creatures in this deck is that they don't have Trample and this little guy fixes that quite nicely and very cheaply
• Maelstrom Wanderer - so, this is going to be really hit and miss in this deck, but the line "Creatures you control have haste" makes it more worth it than it might be otherwise.
