This is the 3rd or 4th iteration of the first EDH deck I built around Animar, Soul of the Elements and it does pretty straightforward Animar combo things reliably without costing $1000.

Wincons for this are mostly combo pieces like Ancestral Statue a million times returning itself to hand then a giant Walking Ballista or infinite mana combos off of Animar and Palinchron or from the classic Peregrine Drake x Deadeye Navigator combo. Infinite mana wins off of either Walking Ballista, Apocalypse Hydra, or Memnarch although if you can avoid it I wouldn't cast Memnarch without infinite mana as any Memnarch player always gets focused immediately.

You can also win off of Ancestral Statue and either Purphuros, God of the Forge or Warstorm Surge. Last, but not least, a sufficiently big Animar can close out with Chandra's Ignition or swinging for commander with Whispersilk Cloak.

This deck is pretty consistent in getting to these combo pieces and ramps quickly to get Animar out and get counters on him with low CMC utilities like Wild Cantor, Wall of Roots, Shrieking Drake etc.

You can use Eldritch Evolution or Momir Vig, Simic Visionary to get to your combo pieces and Hardened Scales or Vorel of the Hull Clade can get Animar running if you can't get to Ancestral Statue. Most of the rest is bounce enabling to exploit Animar's ability, card draw triggers off creature ETB or creature oriented removal or counterspells.
