Changes for the Hour of Devastation Season —July 8, 2017

Two changes have been made for the final season of this deck.

In response to the local meta Blighted Woodland has been replaced with Scavenger Grounds in the Mainboard, and Authority of the Consuls has been replaced with Oketra's Last Mercy in the Sideboard.

Further adjustments may be made as the season progresses.

pax.wellington no worries.

I updated the description as I think it was a little bit confusing.

Sorry ACDAMAN, StuBi is out of town on business.

You can get an idea of how this deck plays at Heavenly High.

A few cards have changed, but it's pretty much the same play style.

Ask me if there are cards you're not sure of.

Argy Thanks!

I was looking at the cards, and for Sylvan Advocate's ability, you don't seem to be getting the full use of it. Have you considered a sort of Needle Spires?

ACDAMAN there's no Creature land in those colours in Standard, and I won't dilute this deck by adding another colour.

Sylvan Advocate is in this deck because you can attach Stitcher's Graft to it, without the draw back of that Artifact.

That means that you get a 5/6 with Vigilance on Turn 3. Then it just gets even bigger than that, later in the game.

StuBi Ah that makes sense... But they really should've made a land creature in those colours!

Agreed.

That would allow this deck to wreck face even more.

The beauty of this thing is how tall it gets, from Turn 3 onwards.

If you put Stitcher's Graft on ANY Creature other than Thraben Inspector, once Always Watching is on the field, you make problems for your Opponent.

The other day I had it on a Lambholt Butcher  Flip, with Always Watching on the field, which gave me an 8/8.

The Vigilance is tricky for my Opponent, as well.

Then, if they get rid of the equipped Creature, the equipment stays on the field and I can just attach it to something else.

An 8/8 Gisela, the Broken Blade, with Flying, Vigilance, and Lifelink, is a headache.

The worst one by far is a 13/14 Brisela, Voice of Nightmares with Flying, Vigilance, First Strike, Lifelink, and your Opponent can't cast spells with 3 CMC or less.

That's been gg on all but one occasion, for me.

This deck is very cool. I will put it together, and run it. I'm one Archangel Avacyn  Flip short, what would you suggest in her place? Gearhulk?

Playtested this a bit on untap.in, got wrecked by a counter deck. Ramped insanely hard with Winding Constrictor and Rishkar, Peema Renegade

Overall, 2-0 lost in the first 6 turns each game

Well that's weird.

I've played this deck for four seasons now and it's done really well.

I even beat a Marvel deck 2-0 that cheated out all four of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

How did you Sideboard?

Did you attach Stitcher's Graft as a priority?

June 14, 2017 8:56 p.m.

StuBi Yeah, Stitcher's Graft on Sylvan Advocate until eventually I got it at 7/8 with 6 lands. During that time I Thraben Inspector'd for Tireless Tracker until he was 6/5. Then they played 2 Sram's Expertise with Anointed Procession after they Declaration in Stoned the Sylvan Advocate and I didn't draw anything to counter in the next turns. The second game I was mana screwed so that went down quickly!

June 14, 2017 9:06 p.m.

StuBi But maybe I'm just not good at playing this deck shrug. Who knows?

Nothing's gonna work if you're mana screwed.

I find that it takes a while before you learn the "secrets" to each deck.

I would have Sided in Cast Out to help get rid of Anointed Procession, and Authority of the Consuls. If they go wide they give you lots of health, and all their stuff comes in tapped.

True... Thanks for the suggestions!

Champion of Rhonas seems like a great fit for this deck. Exert paired with Always Watching is great and you can cheat out the bigger creatures. Granted Bruna, the Fading Light's cast ability won't trigger, Archangel Avacyn  Flip's still will. Seems like an efficient way to get these ladies out as soon as possible. Love this deck!

Where Champion of Rhonas falls on the curve is when you want Gisela, the Broken Blade to hit the field, not him.

He doesn't slot well into any other part of the deck. Other Creatures are more efficient.

As you said, it is not useful to cheat Bruna, the Fading Light on to the field. Her casting ability lets you fish Gisela, the Broken Blade out of the Graveyard and Merge right away.

You don't want to cheat Archangel Avacyn  Flip on to the field on your Attack phase.

Her job is to Flash in when least expected, usually when blocking enemy Creatures or to protect against board wipe.

Given all of that, Champion of Rhonas is NOT a good fit for this deck.
