Maybeboard

To the wind I will sing the tale of the king that reigned in peace and love, of the one of the man who crossed the path of the ancient forest of elves

As of June 2021 this deck is finally at the point where it is "finished" in the sense that I think it should be playable though I have not had a chance to test it out yet.

This is yet another kitchen table turned EDH deck that has been a WIP for a few years.

I am not entirely sold on having Kethis, the Hidden Hand as the commander, but he's the only Abzan Elf. If another better Abzan elf were released, he'd be put into the 99 immediately. That said, until that day arrives, Kethis it is, so I have included some other non-Elf Legendaries just for the hell of it for now. And who knows, perhaps I will make a point of obtaining other Legendary elves for this deck should I like having Kethis, the maybeboard is mostly what I'd add if I do.

If I wind up not being fond of Kethis, I might try Colfenor, the Last Yew and see how I like having him lead the deck instead.

The Elder Dinosaurs are cards I'd like to replace with Dragons, but not sure what yet.

So after playing this deck a bunch of times...I really don't like it, at least not in dual commander.

My reasons for not liking it, and this really has a lot to do with why green is my least favourite colour to play, but it's fairly idiot proof to run. Easy ramp, easy card draw, easy to load the board again and again after board wipes like it's nothing. Hell the mana base for this deck isn't even remotely optimized, and yet it's still fast with a distinct lack of any real decision making or strategy. Unlike some other tribes or mechanics which are a little more flimsy to build around (if not outright jank), elves are one of the easiest, and I guess I underestimated just how easy they were to run while building this. Perhaps it would be more balanced with more than one opponent? I dunno. Wins are just not satisfying without a challenge for me.

Kethis, the Hidden Hand as the commander turned out being enjoyable though!

That said, for now I will probably just keep this deck intact as it is until I'm ready to work on it again. It would also function well as a decent spare deck to have to let someone borrow if they've never played EDH before since it is really easy to run while still being strong against our other decks.
