Bazaar of baghdad —Dec. 21, 2017

Removed Fork and added Bazaar of Baghdad. Fork has been quite underwhelming lately and it's a clunky spell to have with Defense Grid out. After suggestions, I decided to try Bazaar of Baghdad and after a few games, it became quite clear that such a card belongs to this deck. It lets you trade lands for spells, has great synergy with Land Tax, and lets you dig deeper for silver bullets. It's definitely better than fork and I don't think it will leave the deck any time soon.

I'm having a hard time with MTGO's replays, as most of them turned out bugged. I had so many good games with this deck (against more competitive players) that I just cannot post here because the replay is all fucked. This really pisses me off...

The next thing on my to-do list is the single card discussion (SCD) section. I'll post one as soon as I feel more comfortable with the deck and how it should be played.

this is a very interesting build. I like it! You might consider some cards that make opponents permanents artifacts, like Liquimetal Coating. You could run it with Paradox Engine and Isochron Scepter with isochron attached to one of your artifact destruction spells. If you have sol ring out, you can destroy every single one of their permanents with that combo. it is pretty finicky to get out and sustain, but it would be interesting to test.

Otherwise, +1 from me!

Thanks for the suggestions, Pownu! I've never been a fan of Liquimetal Coating because it does nothing on its own. I think the Scepter + Engine combo is a good one but then again, those are cards that accomplish very little on their own. Without access to reliable filter/draw cards, I don't think a competitive RW list could get away with any of those three cards. Also, RW would have a hard time tutoring for non-enchantment combo pieces, which makes the likelihood of assembling such a combo even lower. I've thought about adding a kiki-jiki combo but the lack of reliable tutors is a problem here as well. Thanks for bringing those cards to my attention anyway! I had forgotten about scepter and liquimetal.

  1. came here because i was browsing land-destruction decks and boros is always a challenging and hard to master edh combination.so i klicked without hope to see a tight or optimized list but was still curious.

  2. the awesome alters are the first things to get me focused on. wow thats my style especially as i dont like akiri's and bruse's astetics. now i think yeah thats where your intuition send you... but i still wanted to look at the deck.

  3. i turn on the music for more enjoyment while looking at the list.

  4. finally - a tight boros list. i'm so surprised to see all this together. MLD, sweet art and a tight manacurve.

  5. do i have anything to add? dont think so. i liked Bazaar of Baghdad in my mono-white deck to turn the landfetchers into digging-machines but i see you have red filtering here and moons turn it off anyway.

Hey man, thanks a bunch! Bazaar is definitely a card that's been on my radar and now that I see someone else mentioning it, I think it's time to give it a try It's a great way to ditch lands for spells, as you pointed out, or even just dig for silver bullets. I don't think that moon effects are particularly bad with Bazaar, as I also play red, but Bazaar is not great with Ruination. The thing is that we can always play around ruination if we are planning on casting it.

I also dislike the original art of both cards quite a lot. I thought that something related to the japanese culture would be appropriate, as both commanders are red and white (japan), so I started looking for paintings of onna bugeisha (female warrior) and found an old one with three characters. The theme looked and felt good, so I kept it. If you have suggestions on how to improve it, feel free to share. I don't know a whole lot about japanese culture tbh.
