This deck is currently being updated, some of this information is outdated.

A Modern take on Legacy Maverick. The main goal of the deck is mana acceleration to play out its creatures early while hampering whatever it is the opponent is doing long enough to win. While very similar to GW Hatebears, it differs in superior selection of creatures through Eladamri's Call and lands through Knight of the Reliquary . Being both a creature and land toolbox style deck, lists can vary from person to person and can be tuned to whatever meta you're playing in. Visit the archetype website for more information as well as the decklists that inspired this one.

- Giver of Runes - Protects the more important creatures.
- Knight of the Reliquary - Used to grab whatever utility lands are needed as well as generate extra mana.
- Thalia, Guardian of Thraben - Mana denial in conjunction with Ghost Quarter .
- Gaddock Teeg - Slow down the bigger decks with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben .
- Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch - The de-facto mana dorks.
- Eladamri's Call - Instant speed creature tutor, replaces Green Sun's Zenith .
- Path to Exile - Premier white removal in modern. Combos well with Ghost Quarter .
- Ghost Quarter - Provides mana denial with Path, as well as removing problematic lands
- Knight of Autumn - Brings the beats, can extend the game a couple turns against burn and aggro, and provides artifact and enchantment remove. I personally believe this card is an absolute powerhouse.
- Ramunap Excavator - Recurs Ghost Quarter and lands used by Knight of the Reliquary .
- Scavenging Ooze - Controls the graveyard when against Dredge and Arclight Phoenix .
- Tireless Tracker - Turns fetches into card advantage. Combos with Excavator and Knight.
- Vesperlark - Recurs Step Mom and Ranger while being a decent attacker/blocker.
- Selfless Spirit - Protection against board wipes. - Shalai, Voice of Plenty - Additional protection from targeted removal, with a decent activated ability on a good evasive body.
- Vivien, Champion of the Wilds - Additional card advantage and a powerful passive.
- Windswept Heath / Temple Garden /Basics - Fetch, duals, and basics, not much to say.
- Overgrown Tomb and Swamp - Provides black mana to play sideboard answers.
- Gavony Township - Makes creatures bigger when switching to beatdown.
- Horizon Canopy - Mana in the early stages, card draw in the later.
- Scavenger Grounds - Additional graveyard control.
- Assassin's Trophy - Even more land hate, and can hit walkers. Works well with Ghost Quarter and Path
- Collector Ouphe - Shuts down eggs and Expedition Map . Gives affinity a tough time.
- Knight of Autumn - Extra copies for when it's needed.
- Loxodon Smiter - Turns Call into an instant speed 4/4 against Liliana of the Veil . - Phyrexian Revoker - Walker hate, can disable problematic lands if Ghost Quarter is slow to show up. - Plague Engineer - Humans/Spirits/Merfolk hate. - Thoughseize - Universal, non-land hate. Would mostly come in against UW Control, Death's Shadow, etc. - Zealous Persecution - A favorite that makes combat a little easier against other creature based decks.
As the deck is built as a creature toolbox, there are many cards that can be included. I won't be listing all possible inclusions, as this section would be insanely long, just ones that I think could make the cut.

Devoted Druid + Vizier of Remedies
One of, if not the strongest combo in modern. The easiest way to hamper the opponent's plan is to just win the game outright. Step Mom would provide the necessary protection, while Vesperlark would allow us to play a minimal number of Druids . Kill cards can come in the form of Walking Ballista , Rhonas the Indomitable , or Shalai, Voice of Plenty . With the extra mana, it would also be possible to add in some number of Finale of Devastation .
Kitchen Finks + Viscera Seer + Vizier of Remedies
Setting your life total to a reasonable number, like a googol(1x10^100), will ensure you won't lose against most decks. This combo is best coupled with the mana combo above (see: certain iterations of Counters Company). Murderous Redcap can fill the role of killing the opponent and was the kill creature of choice in Melira Pod. Melira, Sylvok Outcast can sub in for Vizier. The newly printed Good-Fortune Unicorn can also sub in while also pumping up your other creatures.
Dryad Arbor
I personally don't like this card, as it can cause confusion of the boards state. It does have it's merits, though. It's a mana ramper that can come out on two from Call . It plays well with fetches and Knight . It's a good card, I just don't like it
Wilt-Leaf Liege
A very good card against Liliana of the Veil . However, I feel Loxodon Smiter is better, as it can't be countered, making it a semi-difficult threat for UW to deal with. A 4/4 body for 3 mana is also really good.
Obstinate Beloth
Good for the same reason Wilt-Leaf Liege and Loxodon Smiter are good. It does however have the added benefit of gaining 4 life, which may buy just enough time to close out the game.
Siege Rhino
One of the grindiest creatures out there. Creates a 6 life swing on play, then can attack through most blockers. The being said, it is a little slow.

Any suggestions, feedback, or just plain normal compliments are welcome. :) This is a prototype deck, as I have neither the money nor the time to truly test it out.
