Maybeboard

This deck is an exercise in trying to build the most competitive deck possible with Vadrik on budget of $100 or less (assuming buying the cheapest version of the card from TCG Player).

Some cards to consider adding if you have a higher budget are Birgi, God of Storytelling   and Urabrask  . Birgi and Urabrask both allow for more combos with buyback cards and for churning through the deck more generally. However, they do have a downside of having a high upfront cost to cast. I think I prefer playing more pump spells over them to combo quicker but they do provide valuable colored mana if you are okay setting up a turn before in most cases.

Main combos:

  1. Vadrik at 3 or greater power + Electrodominance + Reiterate = Inifite Damage win

  2. Vadrik at x or greater power + Reiterate + Jeska's Will, Hit the Mother Lode, Inspired Tinkering, or Frantic Search = infinite storm, draw and mana (can depend on how much mana the ritual generates)

  3. Vadrik at 3 or greater power + Reiterate + Seething Song or Mana Geyser = infinite storm and mana

  4. Vadrik at 4 or greater power + Reiterate + Pirate's Pillage or Big Score = infinite card draw

  5. Vadrik at 2 or greater power + Underworld Breach + Frantic Search + Brain Freeze = infinite cards and 25ish mana that you can easily turn into infinite mana.

Potential finishers are Searing Touch, Brain Freeze, Drown in Dreams, Commander's Insight or Stroke of Genius (direct damage, mill or have them draw until losing respectively). I generally recommend only including the x card draw as finishers in the deck because they also work as normal card draw spells when they are in your hand as opposed to searing touch which is only a finisher and brain freeze which is a finisher with the upside of also comboing with underworld breech.

Combos with Storm-Kiln Artist/Birgi, God of Storytelling  /Runaway Steam-Kin/Urabrask  :

  1. Vadrik at 4 or greater power + Storm-Kiln Artist/Birgi, God of Storytelling  /Runaway Steam-Kin/Urabrask   + Searing Touch = Infinite Damage win

  2. Vadrik at 3 or greater power + Urabrask   + Seething Anger/Haze of Rage = Inifite Damage win

  3. Vadrik at 3 or greater power + Storm-Kiln Artist/Birgi, God of Storytelling  /Runaway Steam-Kin + Seething Anger/Haze of Rage = Infinite Power and Storm count

  4. Vadrik at 3 or greater power + Storm-Kiln Artist + Haze of Rage = Infinite Power, Storm count and mana (don't necessarily need Vadrik if you have enough mana [10] or if you can cast other spells before haze of rage).

The basic play pattern of the deck is to:

Turn 1: land

Turn 2: land mana rock

Turn 3: land vadrik

Turn 4a: pump spell on Vadrik, then start casting rituals and comboing off

Turn 4b: if you can't combo off on turn 4 your next best play is to pass the turn without casting a spell, changing it to night. Vadrik will get a counter and if an opponent plays 2 spells in one turn you will get another counter when it turns back to day. Then on your opponents end step you cast an instant speed card draw spell so that you can get the resources you need to combo off the following turn.

Fervant mastery is one of the best cards in the deck despite being a very weak card in many other circumstances. You are able to abuse the triple tutor by searching for Past in Flames (and later Mystic Retrieval) which guarantees that you will be able to cast all of the cards you search for regardless of which cards get discarded. You can almost always win by getting:

  1. Past in Flames and two of Mana Geyser, Seething Song, Frantic Search, Hit the Mother Lode. Flashback past in flames and cast the rituals for mana.

  2. Then flashback Fervant mastery to get Mystic Retrieval, Invert / Invent, and whatever else you want. Mystic Retrieval targeting Invert / Invent to get Reiterate + Inspired Tinkering or Jeska's Will to get infinite mana and cards.

If Vadrik doesn't have enough power at the start of this you can often make it work by getting Sudden Breakthrough in the first pile if you have a few extra mana.

35 lands (including 1 mdfc)

12 Ramp spells

10 rituals Jeska's Will, Seething Song, Mana Geyser are almost always mana positive. Also Frantic Search, Apex of Power and Inspired Tinkering, Big Score, Pirate's Pillage, Unexpected Windfall, and Hit the Mother Lode which are only mana positive with Vadrik.

9 pump spells for Vadrik (Fists of the Anvil, Reckless Charge Seething Anger, Invigorated Rampage, Blazing Crescendo, Antagonize, Zhalfirin Shapecraft, Serpentine Ambush, and Water Wings)

7 counterspells (An Offer You Can't Refuse, Delay, Negate, Muddle the Mixture, Misdirection, Memory Lapse and Arcane Denial) (Muddle the Mixture is also a tutor)

6 tutors (Solve the Equation, Firemind's Foresight, Invert / Invent, Gamble, Mystical Tutor, Fervent Mastery)

6 card draw (including Pull from Tomorrow, Commune with Lava, Epiphany at the Drownyard, Stroke of Genius, Fact or Fiction, and Commander's Insight)

5 over the top cards/cards for fervant mastery piles (Storm King's Thunder, Bonus Round, Mystic Retrieval, Underworld Breach and Past in Flames)

3 spot removal (Chaos Warp, Resculpt, Snap) (snap also works as a mini ritual with Vadrik and thousand-year storm))

3 finishers (Stroke of Genius, Drown in Dreams, and Commander's Insight. These are all counted in card draw as well)

2 cantrips (Ponder and Preordain)

1 sweeper Blasphemous Act

1 mana creature (Storm-Kiln Artist)

1 Reiterate
