Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats is one of three party-matters legends from Zendikar Resurgence.

The trick of making the party mechanic work, to me, is realizing that it is basically changeling tribal. In order to have a full party and get the most party payoffs, you need to control a cleric, rogue, warrior, and wizard. But in order to make four tribes work, you need a enough creatures that can count for whatever one you need. Hence: changelings.

What that allows you to do, however, is to build a tribal tribal deck! Not only can your changelings fill slots in your party, they are also allies and dragons and elementals and goblins and minotaurs and vampires (oh my!).

I like this archetype a lot, and I really like how the party mechanic opens it up to new color combinations. Black is an especially good inclusion. If you have a full party, you get a Vampiric Tutor with upside in Coveted Prize or a Fatal Push that can hit any creature or planeswalker in Deadly Alliance .

But that's not all! Zagras gives all your creatures deathtouch. So any random pinger is now an Avatar of Woe ; first strike makes your creatures untouchable; and trample gets all but 1 damage through each blocker.

And with a full party, he's a two-mana 4/4 commander with flying, deathtouch, and haste!
