SramO's: A Healthy Part of a Balanced Meta

Standard* Artifact Combo Jank Storm WU (Azorius)

TavinM

Sideboard

Are you tired of going to standard events and getting beat up by Mardu Vehicles, or Cat Combo? (oh wait... yay for the ban!) Sometimes all you need to win, is a bit of a surprise, and a LOT of life gain.

Welcome to Breakfast!

This is a deck that had some hype around it when the star card was spoiled, but has remained under the radar until now. Your goal is to win the game by using the secondary ability of Aetherflux Reservoir to deal 50 damage to your opponent. How do you do this? Cheerios of course! "Cheerios" is a nickname given to cards that have a printed converted mana cost of 0, making it look like a the popular breakfast cereal. We cast lots of these cards in one turn, gaining more and more life with Aetherflux Reservoir, until we reach the minimum of 51 that we need to activate the last ability and win the game!

Our two goals with this deck are 1. Hold a stable board and not die 2. Cast lots of spells in one turn and win the game with Aetherflux Reservoir.

Here's how ideal opening can go:

T1: Prairie Stream or Port TownT2: Land + Sram, Senior Edificer and any number of Bone Saw and Cathar's Shield to draw cards from Sram (You want to play your equipments every turn you can while having Sram out)T3: Land + Inspiring Statuary, leave back your creature as a blockerT4: Land + Aetherflux ReservoirT5: Land + All your Ornithopter + Paradoxical Outcome BUT using your artifacts to improvise it through Inspiring Statuary. Return all your cheerios with the outcome, draw lots of cards, play all the cheerios, gain so much life that if Progenitus hit your face it would feel like you got scratched, then win the game.

Now, as I said, this is the OPTIMAL hand, AKA Magical Christmas Land, so we can't expect that to happen every time. We have some utility cards to use when this (for some strange reason) doesn't happen. We run four copies of Metallic Rebuke, which has proven to be an INSANE addition to this deck, as it should always be able to be cast for , making it a better version of Mana Leak in this deck. We also have Reverse Engineer for all the sweet sweet card draw, and 2 pseudo-copies of our win condition in Whir of Invention

Our sideboard is mostly tuned to defeat the other decks we plan to run into, AKA top tier meta decks because who runs rogue lists in Standard. (At the time of writing this, it is the first weekend after AKH standard released, the sideboard will be updated over time as the meta settles). The only card that is currently in the sideboard that ISN'T for a specific meta deck is Pull from Tomorrow. I am testing with this against control matchups, as the ability to cast it with improvise (Inspiring Statuary) can be a HUGE swing, especially if you can chain lots of cheerios from what you draw.

Please let me know your opinions on this deck! It has been fairly competitive in my local meta, usually finishing with a winning record against top tier decks. If you like the deck, PLEASE leave a +1 Upvote!

I took the deck to standard night at my LGS, and ended up 1-2. This was mostly due to mana flooding, however the sideboard wasn't complete, and I was missing my copies of Pull From Tomorrow, as well as the additional two Engulf the Shore in the sideboard.

MATCH 1 vs Mardu Vehicles:

Won 2-1. Slow starts by him let me take games 1 and 3. Star players were Engulf the Shore, and Fumigate from the board. Important thing to remember is that you can still equip your Cheerios. 0/5 Ornithopter > 4/4 Heart of Kiran.

MATCH 2 vs RW Dynavolt Tower

Lost 1-2. The first two games were fairly evenly matched, but I wasn't expecting a transformative sideboard from him game 3, into a very aggressive deck. My answers were out and I lost. Cast Out coming in clutch on Nahiri and Chandra in game 2 and 3

MATCH 3 vs RB Hellbent

Lost 1-2. I was able to control very easily in game 2, but lost game 3 due to severe mana flooding (I will likely replace the Port Town with Irrigated Farmland to help fix this issue, and it counts as more island towards my Engulf the Shore)

SUMMARY:

I was very VERY happy with how the deck performed, it showed that it could hold its own against top tier decks. There are some issues with mana flooding, but I think that once I complete the sideboard as it is on here in real life, it will be a competitive, fun part of my local metagame.
