Emry’s Artifacts | Historic Brawl Deck

Why play this deck?

• It is powerful, versatile, consistent, and relentless.
• Emry, Lurker of the Loch provides ridiculous card advantage that enables aggressive openings while also being able to grind down any deck in the long game.
• A toolbox of artifacts provide answers for any situation and can be recurred repeatedly to lock opponents out.
• The deck rarely has to mulligan (not enough lands, no play ables, etc.) and can mulligan for specific answers.
• You never run out of things to do. Emry, Lurker of the Loch can be recast almost indefinitely so you are never cut off from spells.

How do you play the deck?

• The deck is tempo oriented and looks to disrupt the opponent early on while also building a board presence. Prioritize playing Emry, Lurker of the Loch as early as possible and recasting her whenever she is removed.
• The priorities during a game are:
1. Establish any board presence
2. Disrupt the opponent as much as possible
3. Expand your board presence
4. Ramp
5. Draw cards
• Getting any creatures on board early is important. They can be made larger in many ways or infinitely chump block. Board wipes are not really a concern since rebuilding is easy.
• Hitting land drops is extremely important. The deck wants to use all available mana every turn in order to be as fast as possible.
• Removal is limited; use it wisely. Trade creatures whenever possible.

Standout Creatures

• Thought Monitor rarely costs more than 3 mana and provides game winning card draw when recurred.
• Shimmer Dragon is a 5/6 hexproof flyer that draws a bunch of cards.
• Steel Overseer makes every artifact creature in the deck capable of killing the opponent.
• Sai, Master Thopterist makes tokens, draws cards, and is a sacrifice outlet.
• Stonecoil Serpent trample is amazing, protection is great, reach is relevant, and the flexibility of x mana cost is absurd.
• Traxos, Scourge of Kroog is a 4 mana 7/7 with trample and vigilance.
• Nettlecyst is a 3 drop creature that can also be equipped to other creatures.
• The Blackstaff of Waterdeep turns any nontoken artifact into a 4/4 creature.
• Crashing Drawbridge provides free haste and also blocks against aggro decks.
• Scrap Trawler and Workshop Assistant enable even more graveyard recursion.

Standout Artifacts

• Crucible of Worlds lets you play lands put in the graveyard by Emry's enter the battlefield trigger. Enables recursion of lands with sacrifice abilities.
• Forsaken Monument gains life, ramps, and boosts creatures.
• Witch's Oven and Bubbling Cauldron let you sacrifice creatures after declaring blockers for added chump block value.
• Key to the City can force creatures through cluttered board states and also filter cards.
• Treasure Map   generates artifacts and produces card advantage.

The Toolbox

• Hope of Ghirapur locks an opponent out of casting noncreature spells. The lock can be established as early as turn 3.
• Aether Spellbomb perpetually returns creatures to your opponent's hand and draws cards.
• Icebind Pillar, and Pacification Array keep creatures permanently tapped.
• Ratchet Bomb kills all tokens at instant speed for 2 mana.
• Tome of the Infinite is capable of answering pretty much anything.
• Transmogrifying Wand destroys any creature for 1 mana. Guaranteed 3 removals of a commander. Sacrifice it with Sai, Master Thopterist when it runs out of charges then replay it.
• Perilous Myr can be recurred to repeatedly kill 2 toughness creatures.

Equipment

• Prying Blade and Goldvein Pick generate artifacts and also ramp.
• Blackblade Reforged is primarily a late game finisher but can also be equipped to Traxos, Scourge of Kroog and Hope of Ghirapur for early pressure.
• Dowsing Dagger   can avoid the plant blockers by being equipped to a flyer. It takes 4 mana to cast and equip then generates 3 mana once transformed.
• Shadowspear gives trample to any creature. Lifelink and the +1/+1 are bonuses.
• Strider Harness gives haste for 1 mana.
• Sword of Body and Mind makes free creatures and can mill an opponent out if they gain too much life.

Planeswalker

• Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is even more back breaking than usual since his -x ability only hits coloured permanents.
