An Attempt to Make Yuriko competitive: Card advantage and a win condition in the command zone is one of the premier ways to build a powerful competitive commander deck. Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow puts an interesting twist on how competitive decks can be built and what win conditions can be viable. In this instance we are looking at an aggressive strategy looking to threaten life totals prevent ad nauseam and necropotence decks from functioning and punish greedy mana-bases and careless life payments.

The Game Plan

An ideal path to victory is to play a 1 mana cost unblockable or flying creature on turn one, commander ninjuitsu Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow into play and draw into a tutor or one of Emrakul, the Promised End Temporal Trespass then repeatedly use Scroll Rack Or Jace, the Mind Sculptor to keep the 11 to 13 cmc spell on top of the deck and kill all of your opponents by turn five while gaining card advantage, countering or killing threats or deploying heavy stax pieces to secure your victory.

The First Turn

"Unblockable" Creatures

These creatures sacrifice true unblockability for added utility and interaction 1. Artificer's Assistant :Scrying fixes draws. Additionally, looking at the top card of our deck is very important in a top of deck matters style deck. This little bird is a wonderful assistant. 2. Hope of Ghirapur : Should read sacrifice this creature: Target opponent cannot win until your next turn. An invaluable and irreplaceable stun effect. 3. Hypnotic Siren : What can I say ninjutsu back to hand, cast as bestow, steal a problematic threat later in the game. 4. Mausoleum Wanderer : Despite our lack of spirits, this card can very easily force our opponents to wait another turn before winning, just threatening interaction forces your opponents to play cautiously. And yes, 1 mana is enough. 5. Siren Stormtamer : This works similarly to Mausoleum Wanderer however, it protects our win condition instead. Keeping Yuriko alive is vital to victory. 6. Vault Skirge : Phyrexian mana is not any cost especially in a 40 life format. This creature counts -2 towards casting Emrakul, the Promised End 7. Wingcrafter : Soulbond this to Yuriko to send flying ninjas at your opponents. Seriously. Flying ninjas. Enough said. 8. Pilfering Imp : Thoughtsieze on a stick.
