RED

First of all, credit to Travis Woo and his deck, my inspiration for this build.

The build above is one of my favorite decks ever, as it is completely original, uses one of my favorite cards ( Blood Moon ), and is explosive and amazing. But I decided to develop a bit on that idea and see how good I could make it with some new cards. So here it is!

WHAT DOES THIS DECK DO?

This is an all-in red strategy that aims to ramp quickly to either Goblin Charbelcher and win with activations of that artifact, or burn the opponent to oblivion. The rest of the deck is disruption, ramping, and cantrips.

CARD EXPLANATION

Ramp

Desperate Ritual and Pyretic Ritual are the classic red rituals, essential for ramping up to our big spells. They each produce one extra mana and are instants, meaning that they can be used in conjunction with our numerous burn spells.

Traveler's Amulet and Wanderer's Twig are very useful for numerous reasons. They get us lands, which are far and rare in this build, and clear the way for Goblin Charbelcher , meaning that we can get more damage when using it.

Simian Spirit Guide is one free mana and puts us a turn or two ahead, which can be extremely useful in certain scenarios (T1 Mountain , Simian Spirit Guide --> Ritual --> Blood Moon )

Cantrips

Manamorphose serves the purpose of being both a free cantrip and half a ritual to keep the game going.

Tormenting Voice and Wild Guess help us find our win condition and further serve to get rid of dead draws.

Disruption

Lightning Bolt is a simple burn spell meant to burn creatures and players, nothing more. It can help against just about anything.

Roast gets anything that Flame Javelin can't, notably Siege Rhino, Gurmag Angler, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, etc...

Magma Jet is a fantastic card in this deck, as it enables us both to burn and dig, very important for getting the right cards as drawing is not this deck's strong point.

Harvest Pyre is a one-time burn spell that can get huge with all the instant and sorceries in our graveyard.

Anger of the Gods is a boardwipe against any small creature deck, namely Merfolk, RDW, Tokens, Elves, etc...

Blood Moon is an all-star in the deck and especially in the meta, as it shuts down a large number of top decks and does nothing to us. The fact that it comes in T1 occasionally means an auto-win versus a couple of those builds.

Win Condition

Goblin Charbelcher is our first win condition and the reason that we run so little lands. Generally, an activation of it will mean around 10-15 damage, and coupled with the numerous burn spells, that's usually a win.

Pyromancer's Goggles is a secondary win condition, and also offers incredible utility. It can produce mana with rituals and board wipes with our burn spells, before going straight to the face.

Sideboard

Boil deals a very heavy hit to any deck running blue, mostly Twin.

Relic of Progenitus brings in heavy graveyard hate, besides drawing us cards and such.

Peak Eruption comes in against RDW, Tron, and occasionally Jund as it has great synergy with Blood Moon .

Roast comes in if we have to face a creature-heavy midrange deck, such as Jund and Junk.

Smash to Smithereens hits any artifact-based deck hard, namely Tron and Affinity.

Spellskite is excellent against a number of decks, such as Infect, Boggles, Twin, and other tier 2-3 decks.

Torpor Orb is great against Twin, Melira Pod, and other fringe builds.

SOME PLAYTIPS

Here are a few tips on how to play with this build:

Mulligans

In an ideal hand, you would have 1 Mountain , 2 mana accelerators, 1 Goblin Charbelcher , and around 3 burn spells. This not being the case every game however, a good hand would probably have 1 Moutain (PSG), at least 1 mana accelerator, 1-2 burn spells, and either 1 Goblin Charbelcher , 1 Pyromancer's Goggles, or 1-2 draw spells. You CAN keep hands with no lands in this build, but ONLY if you have Wanderer's Twig / Traveler's Amulet , a Simian Spirit Guide, and some gas in the form of burn or drawing.

Discarding

When discarding cards with Wild Guess or Tormenting Voice , here is an order of priority on which cards you should discard first:

  1. Cards that are totally dead in the matchup. An example of this would be Anger of the Gods against Tron.

  2. Pyromancer's Goggles or Goblin Charbelcher , assuming you already have another Goblin Charbelcher in hand.

  3. Blood Moon UNLESS you opponent is only running non-basics and not red.

  4. Other draw spells.

  5. Mana accelerators or burn spells, DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION. If you already have 5 lands, keep the burn and discard the accelerator. These cards are the core of the deck and are to be discarded last.

Conclusion

Keep in mind that these are more guidelines than rules. While these are generally the right steps to playing the deck right, choices can vary drastically with the board situation.

SUGGESTIONS

  1. I could use some suggestions for the sideboard, as I'm generally terrible at making them.

  2. I am looking for a good replacement for Flame Javelin , as it does too little for three mana in this build.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!!
