Retiring the deck for something new... —Nov. 3, 2019

it is with a heavy heart that I retire this deck to try out a new commander. I don't like to keep too many decks of the same color combination so I am taking this one apart to use the parts for my next Jund project, Korvold, the Fae-Cursed King. I'm still waiting for the perfect Jund commander to come out and maybe I'll get something amazing in this coming year with all the new awesome commander products coming out! Until then I'll be trying this deck out for a bit:

Come check out the new deck and drop me a suggestion and a +1! Thanks again to all that commented, upvoted, or even just looked. I hope I influenced your commander deck-building!

Hey man how has this deck been going for you?

Work well and/or fun?

@RobsJourney The decks is super fun to play and it is actually really good... like way better than I thought it was going to be. The reason being is that it's very toolbox-y so I can search up an answer for pretty much anything usually at instant speed. The best cards for doing so are Entomb and Survival of the Fittest . This deck is decent in 1v1 but it shines in multiplayer. Its best against 2 opponents but is still good against more. I have played the deck in a tournament and it held it's own, I made some key adjustments after the tourney so I can stop infinite graveyard loops and prevent damage from an infinite token army, now the deck is ready for (almost) anything. Thanks for looking at the deck!

Hi! I've been interested in building a jund reanimator deck and Gyrus seems to fit better than the other options [although Vaevictis was interesting], even if the exiling is a pain. I've played Meren before and she's great, but I feel like I'd like to try something a bit different, so, since you seem well-informed about the deck, I was hoping you could answer a few of my questions?

Are Doubling Season and Parallel Lives really important? I don't own either, although I could maybe try and trade for a Parallel Lives, if it's needed. Doubling Season is probably too expensive, sadly.

I was also thinking about including additional recursion, such as Meren and others, for redundancy...and because I have the guts of a Meren deck, aha. Any thoughts on this?

Hi sonmew glad you like the deck! Gyrus is super fun to play but he definitely has a high learning curve because of his complex ability. I've made a lot of play mistakes while learning to play the deck properly. Most common mistake is forgetting the exile trigger at the end of combat for the token copies. Anyway, Doubling Season and Parallel Lives are both great cards that I mainly use to double the tokens Gyrus creates but they aren't required. I would say definitely get your hands on a copy of Parallel Lives if you can but don't worry to much about Doubling Season . If you can afford one Primal Vigor is a great substitute but it has a drawback of being a global effect which is good and bad. Good because it helps other players and can be used politically and is much less likely to be destroyed or put a target on your back. Bad because your opponents may get more of an advantage than you do and overwhelm you with tokens or counters. I think adding Meren of Clan Nel Toth is a stellar idea! She is a powerhouse, if you add her you should also toss in a few more sac outlets or creatures that sac themselves so you have a way to build up experience counters. You can check out my Meren deck below. Let me know if you have any more questions, I'm always happy to answer.

Thanks for getting back to me! Your Meren deck looks pretty strong. Cavalier of Night from the new set should be a nice addition.

I actually acquired the pieces to put Meren together earlier in the year, but I now feel like I'd prefer to use a less popular commander and figuring out Gyrus is quite interesting. The exile means the deck can't just spam the same stuff over and over, which is also appealing, even if it makes it a bit harder to win.

I'm sorting out what I have for trade and then I'll figure out which cards are the most helpful for the deck. As well as the token doublers, Sneak Attack looks like a really strong inclusion.

@sonmew, Sneak Attack is such an amazing card and having it in a reanimator shell is just awesome. You get double ETB's for ! I hear you on running less popular commanders, I love my Meren deck but I don't play it very much anymore because it's not as fun for my opponents to play against because they know what to expect for the most part. Always a group sigh when Spore Frog comes out. I like to build obscure commander decks and I almost always have a reanimator sub theme at the least. Drop me a link to your deck once you get it into Tappedout and I'll drop you some suggestions.

Awesome looking deck!

I’m aiming for a 75% Reanimator deck in G/B/x colors and wasn’t originally thinking Sidisi, Brood Tyrant ... I might have to change to this guy!

Since you have so many ETB creatures Ilharg, the Raze-Boar may be quite effective in the deck. Also if you find yourself in an artifact heavy meta Shenanigans might possibly be a good card for the deck. Great deck though! +1

The boar won’t work because attack triggers can’t activate after attacking has begun
