Abstract

Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow EDH/Commander. This deck is a low to the ground aggro deck. Uses low cost, evasive creatures to help Yuriko and fellow ninjas connect with opponents and powerful cantrips such like Brainstorm to manipulate the top of the deck.

With how powerful Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow 's ability is, being able to drain opponent's life for large amounts and put cards in the hand, we want ninjas to connect. Preferably Mistblade Shinobi , Ninja of the Deep Hours , Walker of Secret Ways , and Skullsnatcher as they have useful abilities themselves but mainly because their ninjutsu's cost is two or less. There are ninja's with more powerful like Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni , Higure, the Still Wind , Throat Slitter , and Silent-Blade Oni and while they are in the first iteration of the deck, the deck cares more about getting Yuriko triggers as the main offense so ninjas with cheap cost are preferred. There is also honorary-ninjas and ways to make all of the creatures in the deck into ninjas. Arcane Adaptation and Unnatural Selection making everything into ninjas can be game winning. Mothdust Changeling and Mutavault gives the deck extra ninjas that are themselves somewhat evasive or resilient to give more opportunities to trigger Yuriko.
Approximately twenty percent of the deck is dedicated to evasive creatures that cannot be blocked or are hard to block to make it easily possible to activate ninjutsu. One-drop, unblockable creatures such as Triton Shorestalker , Gudul Lurker , Slither Blade , Mist-Cloaked Herald , and Tormented Soul are the best ones as they are cheap and will get through. There is also the two-drop, unblockable Dimir Infiltrator , which allows the deck to tutor for a two-drop if another evasive creature not necessary. There is one creature with shadow, Thalakos Seer , which is practically unblockable and draws a card with each time it gets bounce with ninjutsu. Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive is the best evasive creature in this deck as it allows all of the one or two mana ninjutsu ninjas to get through without depending on ninjutsu. The rest of the evasive creatures are fliers with useful abilities such as the owls, Spire Owl , Sage Owl , and Augury Owl which all filter the top of the deck, Mothdust Changeling which counts as a ninja for Yuriko, Hypnotic Siren , Hope of Ghirapur , Artificer's Assistant , and Wingcrafter .
Top deck matters for this deck. The deck wants to get as many Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow triggers as possible and flip over high-CMC cards to deal massive amounts of damage to each opponent simultaneously. The cheapest way to do this is to play an assortment of one-drop cantrips that filter the top of the deck, Brainstorm , Ponder , Preordain , Serum Visions , and Portent . These powerful cantrips are coupled with some useful surveil cards like Discovery / Dispersal which has a high-CMC cost and Mission Briefing which allows the deck to cast instants and sorceries from the graveyard. Lastly to help filter the top of the deck, Yuriko gets some help from her little owl friends, Spire Owl , Sage Owl , and Augury Owl which work really well with Yuriko as they filter the top of the deck whenever they enter the battlefield and can be used to activate ninjutsu, returning them to hand for extra deck-sculpting.
The really fun part about this deck is being able to play some really powerful, high-CMC spells to get a ton of value from Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow 's triggered ability. In this deck, I prefer to play spell that have high-CMCs in the mana cost but cast for a much cheaper alternative cost as I want to keep this deck as much of a low to the ground tempo deck.

Delve cards that allow to use the graveyard to pay for a majority of the cost are great and quite a few come with relevant effects. Temporal Trespass gives the deck an extra turns spell, Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise are good draw spells, and Murderous Cut is a straight kill spell. Evoke creatures are also really good because if we don't need the extra evasive creatures then they can just be evoked for their ETB effect; Shriekmaw to kill a non-black creature and Mulldrifter to draw cards. Aftermath and split cards are versatile high-CMC cards as we can choose which side we want to cast or cast the first half and the second half later due to aftermath. Cards like Far / Away , Discovery / Dispersal , Consign / Oblivion , Commit / Memory , and Never / Return . The last mechanic that works really well in Yuriko's ninety-nine is Miracle. Cards that have high-CMCs, powerful effects, and have really cheap reduced costs are AMAZING. card:Temporal Master (AVR) is another extra turns card and Devastation Tide bounces all creatures back to player's hands which works in Yuriko's favor as she can remount an offense quickly and take advantage of the fact that ninjas were returned to hand. If these cards are flipped off of Yuriko's trigger, disabling the miracle cost, that's okay as Brainstorm and Scroll Rack can get it back on top for extra value or to enable miracle.

Another thing, even though other extra turn cards don't have these cheaper alternative cost, other extra turns cards are exactly what Yuriko wants. Time Warp has a high-CMC of five and gives an extra turn which gives the deck more chances to trigger Yuriko.
Since the deck is a low to the ground aggro deck, that has some higher priority threats and it's in blue, it's helpful to have a control package to protect the ninjas and disrupt opponents. Counterspell , Dispel , Negate , and Mental Misstep to deal with an problematic spells. Dismember , Never / Return , Shriekmaw , card:Unsubstantiation (EMN), Far / Away , and Commit / Memory for removal. Then lastly there some wrath-like effects in the form of Devastation Tide .
