Maybeboard

My first EDH deck I've ever brewed, utilizing Silumgar as the initial commander, but has evolved into this bad boy. It does everything I've ever wanted from an EDH Dimir deck: great control, great influence for the political game, and mind control - Mr. Steal Your Boy.

Why not the original, "Mr. Steal Your Girl?" Cause I'm Kynaios . I'll make your Tiro succumb to my tempations ;)

There is nothing more satisfying than winning a game by stealing your opponent's win conditions. This deck is, obviously, not a Tier 1 deck. Nor do I ever want to brew one. This deck is, however, incredibly fun. It doesn't do the things that make EDH frustratingly boring (IE f-ing Meren making his opponents watch him shuffle his library over and over till the game ends). This deck simply highlights and amplifies the things that make EDH shenanigans ... insane.

"Come, let me free you of the tyranny of thought."

The essence of this deck is obviously to mess with your opponent's spells/boardstates, more than your own. There are three facets to this, which for best victory results, should be followed in order:
  1. Be the PoPo
  2. Play politics around Ravnician senate chamber
  3. Stealing Their Boys (they may not be gay, but their boyfriends are)
Be the battlefield police. This is the first step in answering why there is so much spot removal in a multi-player deck. Keep scary things away...in a very true neutral fashion. Don't favor anyone early on, and refrain from stealing things early. Just keep everyone...safe. Simultaneously, take note of your opponent's deck types, and notice the player with the greatest potential for the largest boardstate. Then move onto step 2.
Play the politics game once people have crept past your policing efforts. You should now know who will have the flashiest boardstate in late game. Protect that player. Save that player from the brink of death. All spot removal/countering should focus on yours and their protection. Form an alliance with the potential baddie, whether they want to or not. FORCE YOUR FRIENDSHIP. Why? Eventually, if all goes well, the game will go down to 1v1 with you and them. As everyone knows, it's much easier for a mind control deck to control the game - or at least even it out ( Clone Legion ) - in a duel. Take note of my favorite allstars for the protect and serve game:
  • Supplant Form : If done just before a player's turn start, you can alleviate some of the hate that will accompany a bounce. Use on allies or enemies.
  • Memory : Cracking that memory at the ideal time can help you and your ally. Say when Ob's emblem is in play.

Time for the essence of the deck: THEFT, which isn't limited to creatures. Now that the opponent number has diminished, it's time to go rogue and steal the large spells that people have the mana to pay for now. Some of the all-stars for the different types of theft:
  • Aethersnatch , Kheru Spellsnatcher : the anything and everything thieves. They double as counterspells while taking nigh anything that isn't a land.

  • Volition Reins , Blatant Thievery : The any nonland permanent thievers...from Akroma's Memorial to Omniscience to Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker .
  • Fated Return , Dominate : What's better than instant speed creature stealer? Fated Return, I also do believe, can steal you an Ulamog or Kozilek before there recursion abilities resolve.
  • May your kidnapping heists go as planned, and your Grindr dates go well! Suggestions and plus +1's are appreciated!
