Greatness, at any cost.

Long May She Reign Queen Marchesa (long may she reign) used to be a fun, political, casual pillowfort deck with flavorful inclusions and useless pet cards, but after losing to a an undisrupted combo too many times (just trying to have fun), I had decided that enough was enough. I started this list a couple of years ago by using a shell made by Tomer from MTGGoldfish and changed a few things due to budget (lol Tabernacle) or finding some things didn't work so well. I also borrowed strategies from infiniteimoc’sQueen Marchesa Stax Deck to get to where it is today.

Pillowfort can be completely useless in a hyper-competitive meta where people don't need to attack to win. I enjoyed the playstyle but I wanted to be less passive-aggressive and more proactively disruptive. This deck has always had competitive cards but implementing a casual strategy and that is not where I want to be. I don't want to sit in the corner flicking my cards while the rest of the pod gets to play. I would rather everyone in the pod try to run in wet sand with me as a parachute connected to their backs

I also want to play because I love Mardu and also damn the man. I want to show that you dont always need or to keep up. You just need a black heart and an empty soul.

The main strategy of this deck is to shut down everyone's resources in order to slow everyone down, swim in card advantage by being the monarch or any of the other draw engines and then either beat everyone down with your creatures or combo out before anyone gets a chance to do anything at all.

The real goal is to make everyone so mad and bored that they scoop. This isn't your kitchen table funzies deck you bring to your grandma's house for pizza night. This is the Broad Street Bullies and the Detroit Bad Boys of EDH decks that you bring to the douchey combo pod at the snooty LGS to show them that real magic doesn't need blue. We didn't come here to make friends. We came here to crush dreams.

People of the High City!

It is my solemn duty to inform you that Brago, King of Paliano, is no more. His death shocked the city all those years ago; his spiritual continuance brought joy and relief to us all. Now, he has at last passed truly and forever beyond the veil. His long reign has come to an end, and his spirit is finally granted the eternal rest it deserves.

In his beneficent wisdom, our late king appointed a successor with the will and the strength to bring peace to his beloved city. As his designated heir, recognized by the sacred order of Custodi as his one true successor, I vow to uphold the laws of Paliano, to maintain order in the city, and to see that justice is served swiftly and even-handedly. Though I know that I will never be a worthy heir to a man whose commitment to his city transcended life itself, I must hope that, with the blessings of the Custodi, I am able to guide our fair city to a new age of prosperity.

The transfer of power is always difficult, and all the more so when the end of a monarch's reign comes unexpectedly. Even loyal and steadfast servants of the crown may find themselves ill-equipped to serve a new monarch in the same capacity as the old. As of now, the post of Captain of the Guard is disbanded. The soldiers of this city will now report directly to me. The former captain has retired with thanks from our fair city and a generous pension from the throne that will support her for the rest of her life, however long that life may be.

In the absence of any natural heir, Brago made his intentions for the disposition of his throne quite clear. Lamentably, not all of the king's former vassals respect his final wishes. Those who might use this transition as an excuse for rebellion should know that treason will be answered, as it always has been, with the harshest punishments, while loyalty will be rewarded lavishly. May fortune smile upon Paliano!

—As proclaimed by Her Majesty Queen Marchesa, the Black Rose, first of her name, head of the council, guarantor of lawful governance, sole sovereign of the High City, true heir to the throne of Paliano and all the rights and privileges thereof

Queen Marchesa (long may she reign) surrounds herself with a small council to help in her conquest of crushing all of her enemies and being the last woman standing:

Aside from winning a long and dragging game by attacking with some tokens or creatures after you lock down your opponents’ resources, you can also just end the game by creating infinite Cat Beasts or Bell Ringing Chads with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + either Felidar Guardian or Village Bell-Ringer. Just make sure everyone is tapped out before you launch this combo (see: Rakdos Charm) or that you have some interaction available for possible.

Since the end of the pandemic and not playing IRL games for over a year now, I took out Winter Orb and Hokori, Dust Drinker and just kept in the taxing effects in order to keep things "friendly" for a while. Maybe we will go back to the darker side later on, but I want to play this deck and not feel super bad. I still wanna feel bad but not super bad. I also replaced Thalia, Heretic Cathar with Dauthi Voidwalker, Flagstones of Trokair with Gemstone Caverns
